Japan wouldn't surprise me (that could be done on an island)--Madagascar seems like it could be a good locale--I would also like to see Sri Lanka. Some
people speculated S18 to be in the Maldive Islands of India---unfortunately they're a HUGE destination for Indians looking to go to the beach for the day,
as well as tourists, and there isn't too much history there (or wildlife for that matter).

I'm not thinking India's a big possibility now. They'd probably want to stay on the safe side, and taking a big American production there might
not be a good idea right now, since it was Westerners who were targeted in the recent Mumbai attacks.

Japan is an overpopulated area. The weather is crazy during the months of May-September due to heavy rains formed in the Northwestern Pacific. It is a four
season climate.

It's not bad. They would definitely use the rising sun image. I'd lose the samurai swords though.

Survivor: Isle Royale Survivor: Lake Baikal Survivor: Hudson Bay any of these locations would make for the most punishing and brutal season of survivor ever. even when filmed in the summer. players would have to actually have to SURVIVE rather than fuck around on a tropical beach......... |

Umm, no. But anyways, Japan would be cool, but they'd have to go REALLY far either north or south to find an isolated enough location. I was googling
around and found this island called Iriomote. What do y'all think?
I mean, the island is actually closer to Taiwan than Japan, but it's still historically and culturally Japanese. Plus, most of the island is unspoiled wilderness which I'm assuming is very rare in Japan. |

might not be feasible, as irimote is home of a bunch of endangered species and i doubt the japanese government would want a huge production such as survivor
disturbing the habitat there.

Irimote looks beautiful. Granted, if it wasn't in Japan I'd be yawning because the location itself seems like a very generic island. However, I'm
sure the production would throw down the Japanese theme pretty quickly. Would it be too soon after China, though?

Japan would be like Survivor going to Egypt. Kinda cliche.

Why would Japan be any more cliche than China?

I'm not thinking India's a big possibility now.How far out do they need to make the location decision? I'm thinking sort of a while, cause there seem to be all sorts of negotiations about access to the site and how they'll clean up after themselves and such, before they even start the lengthy logistics process to get all their stuff there from wherever it is. I'd tend to think that the post-Brazil site is probably not nailed down yet, but that they've got a leading contender that they're working on seriously. |

That's what I meant, birdlady. If India ever was on the table (and I think most here believe that it has been for awhile), it's probably not anymore
due to the unrest there.

That wasn't what I meant. I'm wondering if they're too far in to just toss everything away on the spur of
the moment, whatever sites are under consideration.
(It's a cold cruel world all over. Latin America has the highest murder rates in the world for people ages 15 to 24, according to a new study by a Brazilian research group, with Brazil coming in at number 5. Let's go there for our first season with 18-year-olds!) |

I'm sure they have several options on the table, so even if India was one of them, they could easily switch it. Plus, I don't think they even need to
send anybody to the eventual location until at least like three or four months, since actual filming doesn't begin till June.

I'm pretty sure they have back-up locations every season, just like how Marquesas was the back-up to Jordan. I don't think it would be too far along for them to back out of India (assuming, of course, that they had been planning on that to start with, which is just speculation). Recent terrorist attacks against Westerners in a country is quite a different thing than a country having a high crime rate. |
