Well, you'd never go poor overestimating the stupidity of some of these players, but . . . the way the scenario played out last night required a confluence
of a whole lot of streams of stupid:
1. Randy and Corinne both had to be stupid enough to assume that Sugar didn't find the HII even though she'd been sent to Exile, what 4 or 5 times, but assume that Bob found it on his first or second attempt? I can see how Randy would let his dislike of Sugar blind him, but Corinne strikes me as someone with more of a b.s. detector than that;
2. Randy had to be stupid enough to execute Operation Be An Asshole (which, frankly wasn't much different from Operation Be Yourself) before having an opportunity to feel out Bob on whether he had the HII;
3. Randy was also stupid enough to abandon his plan to turn Matt (without ever having been shot down by Matt, at least that we saw), instead of leaving his options open and hoping that they go against Bob under the "take an asshole to the finals" theory;
4. Bob was smart enough to craft a remarkably realistic fake HII, but then dumb enough to blab about it to Sugar when there was absolutely no advantage to him in doing so. Sugar was the only other player left in the game who would've known that Bob didn't have the HII so there was really no reason to tell her. If he was afraid that he was a target last night, then he wouldn't have admitted his HII was a fake, because;
5. Sugar had to assume that Bob was etlling the truth and that his HII was fake. In prior seasons there have been more than one HII in play at a time (and this season TTPB tried to introduce a second HII before the Algonquin roundtable decided throw it into the ocean). Sugar couldn't be sure that Bob was being honest and as long as that uncertainty remained it made no sense for her to telegraph the plan to definitely eliminate Randy, especially because;
6. The Sugar/Ken/Mat/Susie/Crystal alliance had sufficient numbers to eliminate whomever they chose without any input or assistance from Bob anyway. In that context, the whole plan to trick Randy with the fake HII was purely malicious. Now maybe Sugar's dumb enough to pull that when it isn't necessary, but what was in it for Bob? Being 6th in a 6-person alliance with a strong 3-person core that he's not part of?
And finally, why did they telegraph this fake HII deal so clearly?
On the other hand, I don't know if Probst would rip Sugar so much in his recap if she only following producer instructions.
