But I'll do it anyway. Let's not kid ourselves--the ratings tally does not come down from Mt. Sinai (especially since pastordice stopped posting it). No one can really rate objectively. Pretending otherwise is unnecessary. The ratings are and have always been a vehicle for edgicers to express their beliefs about the edits of winners and losers. That's why everybody likes to follow their ratings with their winner picks. And there's nothing wrong with that. Really, do experienced edgicers base their predictions on the votes of others, including those of neophytes? I doubt it. The ratings are mostly a vehicle for expresssing our judgments, and of persuading like-minded others to see it as we do. Rating someone INV is partly a statement about visibility, and partly a way to say "not winning." That said, I'd like to see the INV rating changed, if not eliminated, because it confuses complexity with visibility. Maybe it just needs another name. I disagree. I think that most edgicers do the ratings first, and then analyze the possible winner edits. The only exception to this would be examples like Alexis' INV in Micronesia, clearly voted to take her off the possible winner list. But those examples are few and far between. But because it's considered automatic elimination from being a contender, everyone is reluctant to throw it at people they want to win (see Corinne, EP04) and more likely to give it to people who they think will/want to lose (Alexis). Obviously we're not going to retool Edgic in the middle of a season, but I think we should all try to pay attention to the INV/UTR controversy this season; I'm sure it'll provide some good ammunition for an off-season discussion. wallduck, good post. In an perfect word, my statement rings true. But in a perfect world, socialism is a great concept and we've all seen how that works in real life. It's impossible to separate personal feelings from ratings, and I wouldn't want to see that happen. The editing of Survivor is meant to elicit reactions; characters are crafted in such a way that the audience responds to them, so separating emotional and personal response to an episode from your ratings is IMPOSSIBLE. That being said, we should strive to keep ratings on an episodic scale and separate from how the player has been or we expect them to be. Just because Natalie gets eight 1 visibilities in a row doesn't mean that the first episode she gets two confessionals we should give her a MOR when any other player would get an UTR for it. I know it's impossible to separate personal opinion from ratings, which is why we have a democracy - if it was an agreeable-to-all mathematical scale there would be no need for people to choose ratings, we'd just choose winners. But we all need to try to be fair and balanced, especially in the case of someone who's been eliminated already. Having "accurate" charts for those players is helpful for determining future winners.

Interesting we had Ace repeat that he has Sugar in his pocket, yet Sugar tells us that he's her snake and is shown agreeing with Ken that he's devious. I'd like to think she may do more than just go down as a pushover.

She cried, thus we are suppose to agree with her Kelly- CP4...we learned what she thought was behing Crystal crying and how it may affect the other tribe's views of her, very deep Ken- OTTN2... he's asian and he got a confessional on rice, seriously, how racist Matty- UTRN2... he swore on his girlfriend and takes challenges way too seriously Sugar- INV1... who? KOTA Bob- OTTNN4... did anyone else see the bastard kill that cute turtle? Charlie- OTTP3... he came up with a really good idea on how to share that reward Corinne- CPP5... we got to see why she was upset with Dan's eating habits, and he ate with his mouth open so her views are definitely supported Marcus- OTTN2... at the turtle! definitely not our winner, eating turtles is so-o 1 dimensional!1!1!1!! Everyone's sarcastic and rude to each other now, and so many complain but don't even make actual ratings anymore. That's why I've been so quiet in here this season. I just don't feel comfortable.

She was P because she was left out of both Jeff and Ace's negative comments about the IC performance of Kelly. She was P because she was shown as naive but not stupid... there's a difference between being a naive sweetheart and a blundering fool... Sugar is the former in my opinion. She was DEFINITELY not negative after her EI stay and if you think she was watch again. I'd argue for a solid P and not an M even. If they wanted to make her N they would have an easy time since she's partnered with someone who's getting a villain edit but instead Sugar is being carefully crafted as a Colleen or an Elisabeth mold for the season... to me that signifies a clear P intention on the part of the editors... she was differentiated from Crystal in terms of her crying where the editors let us know that Sugar's tear.s are seen as Positive, happy to be here tear.s and Crystal's are negative and pouty. I think this also shows the Crystal was N. Even after her emotional episode following the RC she was framed as negative by her tribe mates. She's seen as grumpy and fading like G.C. Ace: CPN5 At the centre of things for much of the episode. I can hardly wait for his boot episode. Bob: UTR1 Probably will go far post-merge before getting booted for being too likeable. Charlie: INV0 Damn, where was the "Marcus is my hero confessional"? I feel deprived. Corinne: UTR2 Her storyline has become complaining about how much Dan eats. Crystal: CP5 T.earsof rage, t.earsof grief, must I always be the thief? That being said, this is clearly a CP edit (insight into herself, awareness of others). Dan: UTRN2 When he finally gets booted, I'll be interested to know if he was aware that his eating habits were not appreciated by his fellow Kota members. Kelly: OTTN3 Interesting that she barely figured in the pre-TC plotting that was shown. And they did show Ace's zinger at TC. One of the 10 worst edits ever? Ken: MOR3 Was shown as astute from a strategic point of view, although does it matter that you will be among the last to drown on the Titanic? Marcus: UTR2 Very little advancement of the Kota storyline this episode, but we continue to get snippets from Marcus that reinforce the overall "Kota good, Fang bad" theme. Matty: OTTP4 Worked his butt off in both challenges with nothing to show for it. And he swore on his girl-friend, how sweet. Randy: MORN2 Winners are not disrespectful like he was at the RC. We do see how he has his head in the game. But Randy is always about himself and not the tribe, and that has not been the theme of this season. Sugar: MORP3 P for feeling her tribes pain at the Sugar shack, but her storyline is still as an appendage (either very close or not quite so close) to Ace. Susie: UTR1 Should be another good UTR vs INV battle this week. Winner: Marcus (in the fine tradition of TomW, Yul, and Earl). What they showed of Randy at the RC hurt his chances, IMO. Edited to add: damn a certain poster because now t.ears has to be like this

She has the foundation laid to be answering questions, doubt about making it, being used etc. Constant talk about being "in Ace's pocket..." The statement that people think she's dumb, Probst's voice over at council about "reaching deep" in order to win. She could get the outcome of Ozzy -where Marcus/Yul still wins, but she still completes the journey. With the reality that people didn't respect her, but production still gets what they want -and still have to justify a Marcus win. Sugar, Marcus, Randy, Ace, Matty all have jury facing potential. Scratch that -Marcus IS facing the jury and winning. Just a question of who the other one/two are.

If you are edgically invisible, you don't get a visibility rating of "1". I use INV just for this reasoning, but maybe INV0 should be used by everyone, to help separate INV from UTR1. Secondly, those who get INVs are eliminated edgically and it's been 100% accurate. Tina's "INV" in season two was before Edgic was formulated and the editors were still noobs. After all, Hatch really did not get a good Edgic edit either. But we all need to try to be fair and balanced, especially in the case of someone who's been eliminated already. Having "accurate" charts for those players is helpful for determining future winners. *Agree 100%. That's why I fought for the INV for Susie last episode.*
