I love Sheldon's interactions with Penny, they are quite simply the best. Hell, Sheldon with anyone lately.

Sheldon is fast reaching the top 5 characters written for me., joining the ranks of Cartman and Kevin Arnold (not fully there yet though!).

Sheldon trying to use that driving simulator had me on the floor laughing! He's just unbelievably funny.

I didn't notice the laugh track OR the product placement this episode and yet, I still enjoyed it!
Loved Sheldon pulling the 'favor' and having Penny drive him to work. |

I said I'm going to Home Depot & K-Mart. That's how people talk. I think you need to get out more. |

There are some shows that I don't watch because of the non-stop product placement. "Two and a Half Men" sells high-end cars: I watch that show,
but I've stopped watching the reruns because of the mention of cars by brand name.
When I first started watching "The Big Bang Theory," I looked forward to the show. I still watch the show, but after the "People" episode, I don't really look forward to the show. I refer to grocery stores or supermarkets as "the store." Then there's "the bank" and "the gas station." If Sheldon needed a ride for errands, wouldn't the most common errand be for food at "the store?" How common is it for Sheldon, or anyone, to mention they were going to run errands at Radio Shack and Pottery Barn? It's been years since I've been to Radio Shack. I've never been to Pottery Barn. |

GraceTwo wrote:I am now sure that this isn't purposeful product placement. If Pottery Barn was paying for product placement, they would not have allowed it to be about Star Wars bed sheets. I would imagine there is no such thing as a star wars bedspread at Pottery Barn. They are just using pop culture and/or whatever will give us the most laughs. Do you really think Star Wars needs any marketing for their bedsheets? Or that Ford Taurus would want theirs to be the last chosen of the cars on the simulator? And even if they do use a product for a laugh and get paid for the placement, it just makes this show that much smarter this show is than the rest. Funny funny show, the best in years. It has the feel of Will and Grace to me in it's cadence of jokes and interestingly funny characters. |

usuallylurk wrote:I do it all the time. I'm going to Wal Mart (I actually say I'm going to Wally World but you get the idea), Target, Best Buy, Kohls and yes, even Radio Shack! If I go to the grocery store, generally, I say I'm going to Pick n Save or "Franks" which is the name of our local County Market. |

I cracked up to the references to both Radio Shack (because this is the ultimate in geek) and Pottery Barn (because it is so random).
Either learn to ignore the product placement (it has been going on for a long time now, and is easy to ignore) or turn off your tv because every show has them. |

usuallylurk wrote:Okay..maybe it's a geographical thing. There's 5 supermarkets & countless small grocery stores near me. For me to refer to going to "the store" for food would invariably be followed by the question "which one ?". The same holds true for clothing stores, electronics stores et al. You have to mention the name of the specific store around here or no one will know where you're going. |

If the fact that this show is actually realistic by naming actual video games, stores, etc bothers you....QUIT WATCHING and stfu.

Whether people go to "the store," or to Radio Shack and Pottery Barn, those businesses aren't mentioned randomly. Advertisers pay for product
placement.
If the producers wanted viewers to know that Sheldon had errands to run, Sheldon could have said that he was planning on going to the library and to the post office. Or the writers could have left the errand part out of the conversation. The producers figure out how much money they need or want and how much the sponsors are willing to pay. Then the writers find ways of including the names of the paid sponsors into the storyline. |

I really don't give a shit about the product placement. The networks have to find new ways to get ads into their shows because of all the online viewing
and DVR usage. Sheldon namedropping Radioshack or some other random business doesn't bother me as long as it doesnt' effect the storylines or comedic
value of the show.

I am going to have to agree with usuallylurk. Product placement can be very distracting and it will prevent me from watching a show if the product placement
gets over the top. But it is alright because I just have more free time to visit great stores like Target and enjoy a delicious can of ice cold Coke.

OMG! In talking about all these product placements, does that mean we are now doing product placement on this board??
Does this mean I will have to stop reading these boards because of all the talk about product placements? NOOOooooooooo |
