So somebody said Obama might appoint Powell to something. Why? Because of his stellar track record as secretary of state?
Yea, I figured that Webb had secretary of the state in the bag.

CBRetriever wrote:Just because Powell said it does not make it the right way to do business in those areas. Roads and airports and schools & hospitals are all goods, which should be privately owned the same way homes, and offices and manufacturing plants have been and in some areas still are. The way banks USED to be. And I disagree vehemently that taxes are needed for the common good. What a sham that idea is. |

AMAI I see your point but I think you are either missing Powell's point or focusing on the one line that resonates withyou the most. I'm sure that if
given a longer period of time (and not just a quick response to the media after his earlier interview) Powell could go more in depth into his tax assertion but
on surface level what he's saying is not incorrect. Nobody likes taxes but do you think our country would flourish with no taxes or let's say
"optional taxes"?

and I'd like to state, that because I quote something, it doesn't necessarily mean I agree with it. It's just that the bit I highlighted was
interesting in view of McCain saying Obama was a socialist because he believes in redistributing the wealth

Obama launching his own robocalls:
Barack Obama's campaign is trotting out its own "Joe the Plumber" to counteract efforts by John McCain to make inroads on the white working class vote.I don't think this is necessary. *shrug* His is a positive message though, I just hope they checked Joe Martinez's background to make sure he actually has a license and up to par on paying his taxes. |

Is there a current/modern example of a country flourishing on a volunteer system tax system that we can compare to the US and it's system?

Rush Limbaugh and co are heated:
Colin Powell's decision to endorse Barack Obama has sparked a mini-debate of sorts over both the significance of the endorsement itself and the role that race has and will play during this campaign. lol |

The most crass interpretation came from talk radio host Rush Limbaugh, who wrote the Politico's Jonathan Martin the following:Rush is right. |

I don't see the big deal about the Powell endorsement. He's never been that political, which is part of the reason why he's generally well-liked
and respected. Maybe I'm just not *OMGSHOCKED* because he's been praising Obama for months.
The only thing I get out of it is this hilarity - Republicans probably won't use the "I'm not racist. I'd vote for Colin Powell!" line anymore. |
