#20: Thunder Force II
Sadly, I do not expect anyone to have heard of this game. Which is a shame because it owns. Let me start by saying that I have no idea where I got this game. Flying games aren't really my forte. I think it was given to me as a cheap hand me down birthday present from someone in my family. I never would have saught out this game on my own. I didn't like it at first, but once I got into it I found it impossible to put down. The game takes place from 2 perspectives - over the top or side scrolling depending on the mission. In the over the top levels, you were forced to seek out enemy targets on the map and destroy them before you could move on. The side scrolling levels were your typical intense, fast paced 2D shooter kind of thangs. There were a lot of cool weapons in this game that you would uncover over the course of your journey, and you could switch between them instead of being stuck with just one. The game is graphically beautiful for its time as an early Genesis title. And the overhead levels in particular were very well designed. Overall, I fondly remember how many times I played this game. I can't remember too many details, but the videos bring a lot back. This was a very fun and intense game that I could play over and over again without ever getting tired. Random Rudy trivia: When I think of this game I think of Boston Baked Beans because my step brother and I were eating them the day we beat the game. I don't like those things and have not eaten them since. #19: Ghouls 'N Ghosts
Major nostalgia with this one! This shouldn't be too obscure of an addition, if you've ever heard of or played Ghosts N Goblins for the NES. This is the sequel that was released for the Sega Genesis. Graphically, the game is a thousand times better than the original. Which is to be expected since this is 16 bit as opposed to just 8. The environments are very lush and detailed. The monsters are well designed It is not anywhere near as difficult as the original. It's kind of easy by my standards actually You play as the same guy from the first, and you're on a similar mission (rescue the princess or sumthin like that). You go though a lot of pretty straightforward levels with cleverly designed bosses at the end of them. In these levels, things are constantly coming after you, which can be frustrating and challenging at times. But it's not that bad if you stay calm. There are also a lot of power ups and weapons in the game which will aid you on your quest. Each weapon has a unique special attack, which you can use after you have attained the Gold Suit. Like the other games in the series, this one makes you go back to the beginning and beat it over again in order to see the true ending. Which can be a frustration. This game can be kind of tough, but once you learn the ropes, it is a very rewarding experience. I wasted many, many hours of my life as a kid on this game. Watching the Youtube videos makes me wish I had never gotten rid of it. |

#18: Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition
This is a perfect example of a game that would have been an all time classic if it were not so easy. Seriously... it is SO easy. I beat it Christmas night on my first playthrough. I remember being so disappointed because it was a blast while it had lasted. First and foremost - this is a 2D sidescrolling shooter game. In this game you have a choice of playing as either Dr Grant or a velociraptor. In Grant's quest, it is your mission to beat all the different levels to get off the island, collecting eggs and killing dinosaurs all the way. It is a very fast paced game, unlike the exploration based original. There are a large array of weapons at your disposal. All of which are pretty unique, cool, and useful in their own way. In the raptor game, basically the goal is the same. Escape all the levels and make it to a boat to get you off the island. As the raptor, you can get powerups like lysine that once you get enought make you invulnerable to enemy attack. A unique feature of this game is the ability to pick which levels you want to do, in no particular order. Not that it really matters since they are all so easy anyway! Also, the game is graphically amazing for Sega Genesis. Overall, a very fun and purty game that is easy to get into. I played the hell out of this repeatedly when I was a kid. But it's just so easy... I can't rank it any higher than this. #17: Michael Jackson's Moonwalker
This is one of those guilty pleasure kind of games for me. I was a big Michael Jackson fan as a kid and I had to pick this game up as soon as I heard about it. It was awesome! You play as Michael Jackson himself and your goal is to rescue children from a whole shitload of levels. I remember laughing the first time I heard a kid yell "Michael" when he was rescued. His attacks include punching, kicking, shooting magic sparkles (LOL) and a special attack that made everyone on the screen dance and then die. The background music to all the levels was some kind of theme based on a Michael Jackson song. I played this game more times than I could count. The only downside to it is that it is too easy, and I hate the cave level. Anyone in need of a good laugh should check this out. |

OMG, I played that Michael Jackson game.
A few updates back, I may also be familiar with that X-Men game. I played one on Genesis where you could summon Storm and Archangel. Not sure if that's the first game or the sequel though. |

#16: Mortal Kombat 2
There is no denying that the first couple Mortal Kombat games were instant classics that revolutionized the gaming industry forever. Back then, fighting games weren't a dime a dozen, and this series offered something different. MK 2 picked up storywise where there first left off. After the first Mortal Kombat tournament, you are pulled into the Outworld and forced to defeat the bad guys on their home turf. Graphically this game is an improvement on the first. There are also more characters to keep things fresh. All with their own unique storylines, moves, and fatalities. Other new additions to the series: babalites, animalities, and Friendships. For an old school fighting game, this title is surprisingly deep and offers lots of things, such as hidden characters, level fatalities and other Easter Eggs, to keep you interested for a long time. The two player mode was also pretty fun, and I can remember staying up all night and playing this game with friends. It doesn't rank higher because I never actually owned this game (like I did with the first Mortal Kombat, which will be appearing soon) so I didn't put nearly as much time into it as I did other games on the list. It's still good enough on it's own to rank this high. Toasty! |

#15: Sonic 3
Everyone should be decently familiar with the Sonic series, so I will save the more detailed writeups for the games yet to appear on the list. Anyways, this game is more of the same that we saw from the first two titles. There are a few new innovations, like the bonus levels. Knuckles is also introduced as a character. But otherwise it's pretty much the exact same thing. It's still a fantastic game, but to me this is where the series started to go a little stale. ETA: Random trivia about this game: I remember the snowboarding "stages" of this game being hyped in the commercials. But when you play the game, you only snowboard for about 15 seconds, and you aren't even in control of Sonic while he's on it. That let me down as a kid. #14: Vectorman
This is a game that I don't expect a whole lot of people to have played. It came out near the end of the Sega Genesis era, and was probably the system's last major hit. It was included on my top 100 list, and I do not believe anyone commented. Anyway, in retrospect, this game has dropped a bit in my mind. For those not familiar, this is a 2D platformer/shooter in the mold of Contra. I can't really think of anything else to compare it to! In addition to the 2D sidescrolling levels, a lot of bonus games and mini-stages have been thrown in to keep the game fresh and not so repetitive. Graphically and soundwise, this game is leaps and bounds better than almost any other game the Genesis has to offer. It's really stunning in spots. Where this game has tailed a bit in my mind is in the difficulty level. It took me a few tries when I first got it, but I could easily pick it up now and play it at the hardest difficulty without dying. It's really easy. I think I had this game beat a day or two after I got it. It's got decent replay value, as the levels are big. There is a lot to collect, and a lot to see in each stage. Vectorman is a great game, but too short for my tastes. |

#13: Mortal Kombat
I mentioned in the Mortal Kombat 2 write-up that MK I was going to appear soon. Well, here it is. This game was controversial and memorable for sooo many reasons. For the most part, video games had been relatively tame and bloodless until this came out. I remember hearing people get all worked up about this game because it was supposedly SO bloody and gruesome. When I finally got my hands on it, I was a little let down. Aside from a splash of faking looking red blood when you hit people, it really isn't that gory. And then I went to do the fatalities. I must be thick skinned or something, because I never got the fuss about the violence level in the game. Probably because my parents always let me watch R-Rated movies. I grew up on The Fly and the Terminator when I was a kid. Yes, it was bloody and violent. So? I technically never actually owned this game. My brother got it, so it was basically the same as me owning it. I played it a TON and become all kinds of obsessed with it. It was so fun and challenging, and I remember how excited I would get trying to find Reptile (hidden character in this game) and beat him. He always kicked my ass. MK I is outdated now, but for it's time it was a top shelf fighting game. I was never a fan of the genre until I got my hands on this. For it's time, a truly unforgettable game. ETA: I am looking at the Youtube video now. Only 7 characters? Wow. #12: Zombies Ate My Neighbors
This may be a surprise for ome people to see this game appear so low on the list. It ranked reasonably high on my top 100 list. I just really can't remember too much about it, is all. I rented it a few times when I was a kid, but I never actually owned it. Each time I rented it, I fell in love with the game. It was just so fun and unique. The game took place from an over the top viewpoint, and you had to go through levels which were overrun with zombies and all other kinds of nefarious creatures. You had to kill them and rescue people from the clutches of evil. I have very fond memories of staying up all night and playing the crap out of this. But when it comes down to the fine details, my mind is drawing a blank. Maybe it would all come back again if I were able to find this game somewhere. I found a used copy for the SNES last year but it was broken and I had to take it back. And they didnt have any other copies Mainly, this game ranks at #12 because while I know this game is amazing and I can acknowledge its greatness, it doesn't have the sentimental value of the titles yet to appear. |

#11: Beyond Oasis
I mentioned this on my top 100 list, but I doubt anyone has played it. Basically this is a game that I picked up on a whim while looking for something to rent at Blockbuster. It is an action/RPG in the mold of Legend Of Zelda for the Nintendo systems. It may be a travesty to say this, but I think it is just as good if not better than the Zelda games! Despite having action based battles, you can go through cities and towns and whatnot and buy stuff. The map is gigantic and there is a ton of stuff to explore. The story is strong too, and I recall there being some interesting plot twists. Graphically, this is one of the best games the system has to offer. The game takes you through lots of lush terrain and locales. The enemies are big, vibrant, and cartoon like. The atmosphere of the game is brimming with life. The sweeping musical score adds depth to the already strong atmosphere. I remember there being some huge and creative bosses too. This game isn't very long to beat. But that may just be because I played it pretty much non stop the whole time it was in my possession. This is, in my opinion, one of the most overlooked classics out there. If you own a Genesis and have never played this title, you should try and find it. You won't regret it. #10: Cool Spot
Another game that made the Top 100 on my last list. I won't rehash it too much. This game is a 2D platformer where you play as the Cool Spot guy from the 7 Up can. You go around shooting fizz at enemies and collecting items. Basically, I am not even sure if there is anything that great about this game. The graphics are vivid, and the action is nonstop fun. But what makes it stand out over all the other great Genesis games out there? I don't know. I think it has more of a sentimental value for me, as I used to play this title nonstop 24/7 trying to collect every item in the game. It brings back fond memories of childhood. Still, I bet I would love this game if I picked it up today. Another underrated classic. |

Oh, Cool spot. I played this game in my old IBM computer since I accidentally deleted the files of that computer where my brother's classmates and I greeted them. I played it during weekends where my mother wanted to kept the keyboard during school days where my brothers and I were very busy in studies. |
