Yeah the pranks on Dwight have always been a favorite part of the show for me. My favorite is one that was only mentioned by Jim in talking head segment:
slowly filling Dwight's phone with nickels and then taking them all out after he was used to the extra weight so he hit himself in the face when he picked
up the phone (or something like that)
Oh! Dwight receiving faxes from future Dwight was awesome too |

This episode got the series right back on track after derailing a bit during the finale and premiere (at least in some eyes). I was afraid they wouldn't be
able to get out of the corner Meredith was backed into, but I was able to buy that Kendall (whom Wallace once mentioned as being a pain in the ass like Toby)
was simply lazy and incompetent like so many others in the company. The dynamic of Holly being Michael's new partner in crime is fantastic.
Jim: It's about a guy named Dumbledore who has to return a ring to Mordor. Andy (completely oblivious): That...doesn't sound right... Also, Dwight using "cuckolded" in a sentence. |

One minute into the episode and I'm already pissed off. Why would Michael tackle Jim? Ugh. If only they would just rein it in a bit.
Edit: OMG! That has to go down as the greatest (and weirdest) and most misplaced Survivor reference of all time.

I didn't think it made sense they didn't fire Meredith, but that explains it. (I also thought they said she was getting them a discount on paper - but why would they need that if they're a paper distributor? I must have heard wrong) well i've been bitching about Meredith's lack of a storyline for weeks, so I got a kick out of her getting some facetime tonight. I thought it was an okay episode over all, much better than last week, with a lot more one liners. I like it so much more when they focus on the workplace interactions, instead of romantic entanglements or stuff going on outside the office.

I liked it quite a bit. The idea of Meredith fucking for Outback GC's is still making me chortle.

The random Survivor bit was amazing. Hallelujah!
Really great episode, and I hope we get more shocking secrets from the minor characters, like Creed being a...actually, nothing will surprise me with him. |

Soooo happy that they're reviving Jim's practical jokes on Dwight. That's one of the things that made the first season so funny.

Everyone always complains about Jim/Dwight dynamic being lost last season and the writers put something in the episode and people hate Jim. SHOCKER. It makes
no sense since Jim/Dwight stuff has been going on for years. Last night's prank was no worse than any other in the past. Dwight didn't care much either
(he still had sex with Angela).
I thought the episode was good because they managed to continue with office oriented stories and they used the ensemble pretty well. |

I liked this episode better than most lately. There were a few annoyances (Michael tackling Jim, mostly), but there were several really funny bits:

The Pam/Jim storyline isn't a main focus of the show, so I don't find it really tired at all. It's just a fact that Jim & Pam are together. Ryan back in the Scranton Branch is PERFECT, IMO, and doesn't feeel contrived at all and I would totally expect it. Michael hs always had a HUGE man-crush on Ryan. Ryan was fired from Dunder Mifflin. Michael found out that Ryan was back working for the local Scranton area temp agency and personally requested Ryan to replace the other temp receptionist that was filling in for Pam. Totally believable. So, Ryan has come full circle, back to be a lowly temp. It was an added comedic effect when Holly was putting on the ethics meeting and commenting that it was due to "someone from corporate doing something highly unethical and being fired" only to find out that the fired employee is Ryan the temp. Personally, I find the whole storyline hilarious and I love Ryan being back as the lowly temp. I've never found Jim insufferable. Jim is pretty much the same as he's always been, with the looks to the cameras and his taunting & pranks on Dwight. If he quit with the sarcastic comments, looks at the camera and pranks on Dwight, he would have no purpose on the show and wouldn't be entertaining to watch. I think this season has been great so far. Only 2 episodes, but it's still going strong IMO and is still one of the best sitcoms on T.V., BY FAR. (Not that there's much competition, though.) |

So neither episode of this season have been really great. That said, the show is still brilliant and neither of them are bad, not as bad as the worst of last
season's. I found Jim's prank a little lackluster, kind of annoying, though the Battlestar Gallactica bit was funny.
I thought they were going to go a different direction with it. Instead of Jim being on Dwight's case about it, he would encourage Dwight to be calling out others for petty time theft stuff, similar to Jim telling Dwight about being a wedding crasher in season 3. |

another very enjoyable show. Not the greatest ever but very enjoyable. Nice to see Holly in the role of the 'heavy' and being the only one at all
bothered by Meredith's actions. LOVED having a gereat Meredith-centric story.
The Ryan working at DM after being fired is purely a TV conceipt. It's not real life. He's a regular. They're going to find a way to keep him and having him be a temp again, subbing for the logically absent Pam is perfect and in character for Michael to go to the mat for him. Loved Kelly pointing out the smoker problem. I've had issues with that too over the years. I think I liked it a lot because it was very office-centric. Most shows couldn't do this plot because they aren't work-environment oriented so it was a nice change of pace. I also really liked it when Michael put his foot down for Holly. Always nice when he's a sweet guy and a even halfway decent boss. |
