I don't think there's any mystery as to how Lila and Riggins hooked up -- those two've been gaga since day one. I wonder what happened to Lila's evangelical streak. Conveniently written out? Good point on Smash. Both he and Street were supposed to be written out. Lots of Smash last night and for that matter, at least two references about Street. How did he get injured anyway? Hated the look on Saracen's face as the new QB debuted. What more does the poor guy have to do to get respect? Win the state championship? Oh wait.

Oh wait. heh. first the good news. if you have directv it looks like the 101 is going to rebroadcast fnl eps on friday nights too. 9pm edt. in case you miss one. and the thing about season two of fnl is that it was truncated because of the writers strike. what should have been 22 eps was reduced to 15. it looks like season three is going to completely skip over those lost 7 eps and just carry on with the story, addressing lost issues as they arise. how did lyla and riggins get back together? i think that was sort of covered by the elder riggins brother in explaining love to the younger ("she went to bed with jesus and woke up with you") as if tim is some sort of rebound relationship for lyla. (heh. explained as the elder's fiance-to-be was giving a lap-dance to some stranger in a strip club. ok.) how did smash get injured? that was covered in the buddy video tribute to the panthers at the after party of their first victory. smash wrecked his knee in a playoff game/championship game that we never got to see in the lost 7. and both smash and street are gone from the cast. but they each get a 4 ep sendoff to complete their stories. since season three is only 13 eps that means both of them will be around for quite a bit. heh. tammy vs everybody. saracen vs the new kid. coach vs the texas football world. this should be a great season...

Loved the catch up with the end of season 2 that we didn't see, with Smash getting injured and then the team falling apart in the playoffs. Then at the beginning of the episode Coach introduces us to "Principal" Taylor. Also the talk radio segment at the beginning lets us play catch up with the football storylines. Hate Tyra's new hairdo though. Like the fact that Riggins and Lyla are back together. Think it's hilarious that Principal Taylor wouldn't sign off on a class switch, so she goes to the unsuspecting father who of course doesn't know what the hell is going on and signs it, very realistic storyline and who hasn't done that in real life? Love the new QB storyline, hate the fact that they are making Saracen look like he has never played the position before in practice. How do you go from a state champion freshman/sophomore QB (I forget what year he was in that season, they definitely changed some peoples years to bring them back for a 3rd season), to a senior QB who can't take a snap? Very unrealistic there, the proper storyline would just be the fact that the new kids is oozing with talent and maybe get a platoon going, with Saracen beginning to struggle in a game now that another QB is battling him for playing time and let the kid beat him out that way, although it looks like Coach is gonna ride Saracen's experience this year. I started cracking up when the ice cream truck showed up to practice, that was a great scene. The allocation of funds storyline is a realistic one as well, with so many places people are donating money to these athletic programs while the academics take a hit. That was a ballsy move by Principal Taylor to take Buddys donation and put it towards academics, when it was clear he wanted the money to go toward the Jumbo Tron. Loved the "two game rumor" thing Buddy said to Coach...was cracking up after that one as well. This season has the potential to be greater than the first two combined, depending on where they go with these storylines. I'm just pissed I have to wait a day or two to download the torrent after it airs since I don't have DirecTV.

Posts: 883 (10/08/08 10:31 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	i read on tvtattle today that 400,000 directv viewers watched the s3 premier last week. and that the nbc average for fnl was like 6.5 million. now to put that in perspective, directv reaches 17 million subscribers, while nbc has access to 100 million homes. so that's like half of the "viewers to available viewers" that watched on directv vs nbc. its clear that the directv sponsorship did not prove to be the model for resurrecting an ailing network broadcasting show and this will probably be the last time this is attempted. that is sad. i love it when we try (sending nuts) or they try (exclusive broadcast rights between providers) to keep a good show going. i do appreciate the effort. that said... i am over the moon happy that they tried on fnl. i love fnl. fnl will show thirteen new eps this season. thirteen eps that i would never get to see without this directv attempt. hell, nbc might even cancel their showings if the ratings suck. directv won't. non-broadcast tv commits to things. broadcast tv is fickle. so me and my other 400,000 brothers and sisters will get to enjoy each and every one of these thirteen ep, commercial free, until this show is done. its like being in a special club. we get to see it. every week. sofa smiles. about this ep... academics vs athletics. i love the coach/mrs. coach relationship. i love the fact that they separate personal life from career. but i know that coach knows that principle tammy can not win against the juggernaut that is the texas football culture. he attempted a bit tonight to tell her to back off but she is alone and fighting a totally losing cause. that jumbo tron will go through. and then tyra... tammy has been the champion of tyra since the get go. rise above. get your education. get out. and then tyra succumbs to the t&a approach... (an approach that works, btw, for your consideration.) and poor matt. how much shit can we dump on matt's head and then ask him to compete with this upstart qb on his ass. i actually hope that he doesn't hook back up with julie. go get some sleep matt. deal with the shit storm that has been dealt you and avoid the coach's daughter. nothing good can come from that. i love fnl... I could take some parenting advice from her!! Love Coach telling Tammy he misses her being the Coach's wife and then her telling him she can't wait to meet the Principal's husband. Love Buddy giving Lyla advice, like the Julie & Matt scenes.... overall just another fantastic episode.

Posts: 919 (10/15/08 8:29 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	mamarat and i loved it, sofa. fnl is best when it is the simple but intense fnl from season one. that shitstorm that you and i know both know is coming played out perfect tonight in an ep largely, i thought, to be about the coach/mrs. coach relationship. coach has always had to dance a fine line with these yahoos that employ him... the outside power struggle that always threatens to consume him is in your face tonight, even as mrs. coach... dear sweet mrs. coach... lines up against coach ("i wasn't played. she was nice.") saracen sacked up tonight. booya! (but i need to see the replay on that fumble at the end of the game. that ball crossed the plane and in his possession!!! that was a fucking touchdown!) it was nice to see julie being nice again. at least something for my boy saracen... and as much as i will miss smash, i will miss momma smash a hundred times more. momma smash is my favorite character on fnl ever...

I've been watching way too much tv lately but (for example) I watched 3 shows online tonight, which means I'm not planted in front of the television every night of the week. My ass is wide enough, don't need to have a tv guide next to me.

(yeah, sofa does cry...) first when coach and mrs. coach were sitting on the bed and tammy was having her doubts about fighting the jumbotron. when she knew she was going to lose. and coach knowing all about losing stood by her and her decision. and then when coach stood up and steped up for smash at that tryout. twice. that makes it an excellent ep in my book... ok. three times. when smash got the callup...

That was a great send off for Smash. I can only wish that other characters get a similar optimistic send off. I just wish the writers would quit dumping on Matt - it's like he carries all the worries in the world on his shoulders. I get that JD's the better quarterback (he certainly had the money and time to make him that way, unlike Matt) and he doesn't seem like a bad guy so far (respectful to the coach, studying the game while Matt was playing). I bet even the other players will like him, which all will distinguish this from the VooDoo situation. Overall, excellent drama for all the characters involved BUT I just want something to go right for Matt. I get the feeling JD will show up Matt in the next game. =( Regardless, still the show's getting great again.
