Re the Keating 5:
At the time, the lawyer for the Senate Ethics Committee was Robert Bennett (a Democrat). He recommended that all charges against John McCain be dropped, but the Democrats on the panel wouldn't allow it. McCain was the only Republican charged, and he had to remain part of the investigation so that it could be spun as a "bipartisan" scandal, and not a "Democrat" scandal. McCain and one of the Democrats were ultimately exonerated.
Re Alaska secession:
Americans have the right of free speech, and are permitted to debate any issue... even secession. Here in New York State, it seems that every few years Long Island starts making noise about seceding from NY State. At least the Long Islanders and the Alaskans explore the issue through the proper political process. They don't advocate violent rebellion. I imagine it's quite frustrating for Alaskans to be sitting on top of all that oil, and to be told by a few hundred pinheads in Washington what they can and can't do with the resources in their own state.

Re today's "View":
As usual, Whoopi got 2-3 minutes to express her opinion on the debate and on Bill Ayers, uninterrupted. And predictably, as Elisabeth attempted to respond, she got about 20 seconds into her answer before Barbara/Whoopi/Sherri started piling on, and then Whoopi went to commercial. The situation there is truly hopeless. Barbara and Co. will simply allow no view to be spoken except the liberal view. Elisabeth should accept that she works in a left-wing dictatorship and that she will never be permitted to complete a sentence again. When she is granted her 10 seconds to respond, she should just say, "I disagree" and smile sweetly at them, and just collect her paycheck.
Also: Did I hear Whoopi take a little dig at Bill Gedde? Or was the "Bill" she mentioned Bill Ayers? It should be interesting if she's feeling her oats and has decided to take on the Viewmaster himself.
