Carter was considered to be very inexperienced. but Ford was unpopular for several reasons - The Nixon Pardon, concerns about his drinking, Crazy ass inflation and a few other issues. Carter - while a very nice person - was a a failure as a president (but not anywhere near as half assed as Bush Jr.) I fear that Palin would be a combo of Bush Jr and Carter. I also feel that she has a great chance of being president as I have a concern about mcCains health. I really wish McCain had been the candidate 8 years ago.

You all keep jumping over decades of McCain's life to keep continued harping about his military years. You can only win this election by focusing on ancient history.In those many many years since, McCain struggled to fight -- and then became the standard-bearer of -- the very forces that have weakened our government today. Dumping on a "community organizer"will backfire on you in a major way, as those very communities are those who are being affected by the weakened government. Again, may I ask why you all avoid McCain's years as senator? Why you all seem to ignore the fact that he is a republican that has adhered closely to everything Bush has done in the past eight years? All I keep hear is nostalgia everytime somebody writes his name. Candi - are you even familiar with any of his career after 1972?

It's a stupid thing to say and anybody over the age of ten should be able to recognize it as an outright lie. I see. So the only way you can love your country and put your country first is to be a war veteran. Poor Candi must hate her country. Or was she a POW, too? To love your country, do you have to build missiles or can you be a cancer researcher? Do you have to enlist in the Armed Services or can you represent the US in the Peace Corps? Do you have to carry a gun and wear a uniform or can you go into struggling neighborhoods and help fight a war againt poverty? Do you have to serve as a senator for a few decades or can you "just" be a teacher who makes a difference in kids' everyday lives?

And I really doubt that if a bunch of typical Americans were sitting around talking about a hypothetical 'perfect' presidential candidate, I doubt anyone would say, "Boy, wouldn't it be great if we could get a community organizer in the White House!" Obama gives the impression of a guy who decided he wanted to be a 'politician' because he's good-looking and speaks well. He doesn't seem to be driven by any real passion. "Community Organizer" sounds like a job someone would take because he wants to run for political office. Those guys are pretty harmless when you run across them running for Student Council, but not for POTUS.

And FYI, I'm assuming with your opinion that serving in Vietnam somehow bestows upon an individual presidential experience that you most likely voted for John Kerry and Al Gore in the last two election. Yes, but that's only one feature of his resume that the Republicans have latched onto like a moray eel because it sounds 'foreign' and 'urban'. They are the real middle class American citizens that are struggling to live day to day. Most of those people don't care what the hell John McCain did in his past, they want to know what he's going to do now! Unfortunately, he's agreed with 95% of Bush's policies, the same policies that have slapped the faces of millions of those disadvantaged people! All he has to run on his is POW history and that's not helping anyone.
