The windmills on Altamont Pass east of San Francisco, for example, kill eight times as many bald eagles each year as those that died in the one-time Valdez oil spill in Alaska. What? What does that mean in real numbers? That statement is garbage. Was it one killed in the Valdez Spill and eight killed by windmills, or 100 versus 800? Whenever someone uses an argument like that I tend to discount everything else they say.
Too lazy to google? Finding this took me under a minute...
about 250 bald eagles died from the oil spilllink
You miss my point entirely. By tying the number of eagles killed by the Valdez to the number killed by the windmills the author has equated windmills with a manmade disaster. The author could have said that 2,000 bald eagles were killed by a particular wind farm over a given period, but that wouldn't be as emotional.
