McCain's speech was mostly about his military experience as a Prisoner Of War. Yawn And good gawd, he's a boring speaker! Listening to him speak is like counting sheep, or watching the grass grow. No wonder I fell asleep before he was finished. And what happened to his left jaw? Looks like he just had a wisdom tooth pulled.

The GOP nominee was vastly underestimated in 2000 and 2004. The war, stagnant economy, an embattled Bush, a fresh face annointed by the media as the Messiah, etc.. are all things that should work in favour of the Democrats. But the most recent CBS News/NY Times (that's CBS News/NY Times, not WSJ/Fox News) poll puts McCain and Obama in something of a dead heat. That's a red flag for the Dems. McCain has no business being within 10+ points of Obama. He should be in Jerry Ford territory. The most astute observation here was proferred by none other than Slip. In a rare moment of sober coherence, he exclaimed, "Dems have to hit hard and fast" He's right. If they don't do that, they risk underestimating the GOP nominee this year. Again.

He doesn't mention his name, his comments are not in context .. it's easy to see why people think he's talking about himself when he said: "I'm not running for president because I think I'm blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed me to save our country in its hour of need." Huh? McCain. Speech. FAIL!
