What is huge? In the wild they travel for miles and miles checking out the sites.

yeah looking for food or water which during a drought there is very little of both. I would also dare to say that farming is not good for elephants either.
I hate when you see elephants in small zoos and they are rocking back and forth like they are autistic. |

At least they are free!! They face adversity but they have their dignity (except for the mouse thing which makes them all a bunch of pussies).

That's pretty sad, especially if she wasn't sick. I didn't realize they were African elephants. Our zoo only has Asian elephants.

you can tell an African elephant cause their ears are shaped like Africa. it's true. Each of the elephants has their room at night for sleeping, except for Tequila and Thika who shared a room. Thika will be alone tonight for the first time ever since she was born (1980) |

um, what do you think this is? A circus? Our elephant enclosure is huge. Is it as big as the acres upon acres of fields and forests that they run through in the wild? If not, then they are caged. |

yeah, elephants really don't run, and there's no forests in the Savannah.

When an elephant in the wild dies, the other elephants cover the remains with sticks and such. It's true; they bury their own. Sheesh...I bet Thika is grieving. : ( |

I'm sorry to hear that Loki...but the vets from Guelph comment made me laugh.

Loki wrote: yeah, but there are elephants in forests. I saw a show that covered the rain forests in the Congo, and the elephants were crashing through them. The program said they defied the usual tendency of forest animals to be small, because they can pretty much plow through anything |

Loki, what happened to her left tusk? Did it just not grow or something?
My condolences to the people of Toronto. I love elephants. I find them to be among the most fascinating creatures on the earth. |

her tusk broke off and never grew back!
and I guess I was thinking more German type Black forest than Rain Forest. |
