Dan is just an odd kid. He has years ahead of him to grow and mature. Judging him based on what you perceive to be the norm for a Catholic or Republican is just ludicrious. He is slowly wearing me down and becoming my favourite because of his quirks :/

There's probably a little bit of truth in what everyone is saying.. My take on Dan:

Dan loves his job teaching and assistant coaching with the football team at his school. For those who don't know, Dan was hired without yet having completed his teaching certificate and is still working on getting it with the school's blessing (it's a private school, so apparently not required). He's very appreciative of the faith placed in him by the guy at the school who hired him and doesn't want to do anything that may reflect poorly on himself (or the school) and have it get back to the school administrators and get him in hot water and/or fired.

I don't think Dan is being disingenuous when he asks other HGs if they think he'll still have his job after this show is over -- I think he's honestly worried. He is constantly "checking himself" when it comes to thinks like: cursing (heard it a few times, covers it up or changes the words most of the time), drinking alcohol (he has done it, but always drinks it from his soda cup and whenever talking about it, he refers to the soda he's drinking), sex/relationship talk (he could be very conservative in this regard too due to his relationship and respect for his girlfriend)

Another example is Dan/Keesha/Memphis have talked about living with your significant other before you get married .. Memphis and Keesha believe that's how you should do it, Dan says he doesn't, he won't live with Monica until he gets married. Ok, perfectly reasonable for a conversative kid to say/think/feel that, right? Well guess what, last night while telling Keesha and Memphis about his various living arrangements during college, it became clear that Monica WAS living with him for some period of time when he was living off campus in a house/apartment. They gave him grief about it and you could see the devilish/sly smirk on Dan's face

Dan is obviously a fan of the show, he has watched the feeds or at least knows how they work. He knows about the rabid Internet communities that Big Brother has spawned (he even made a $100 bet with Memphis a few nights back that Memphis' real name (Robert Garrett) would be listed on Sir Links A Lot with links to different stories, etc about hm .. Memphis had no clue).

You can rationally assume that Dan knows about the private and/or public backlash certain houseguests have received once they leave the Big Brother house (i.e. most recently Amber's anti-Semetic comments and Adam's comments about kids with disabilities)

I don't think we're not seeing the real Dan -- I just think he's trying his best to "cover his own ass" just in case.

So I could see how some folks think Dan is being "fake" .. I don't think he is, I just think Dan is just being guarded in some cases because of his love for his girlfriend and his love of his job and his fear of losing either one of them.
