I'm a major cinephile and a cerebral, well-schooled one at that. So I'd put more faith in my impressions and interpretations than most others- even
older others.

i agree that us youngers maybe don't "get" get those movies/lines, but that doesn't mean we can't just get them.

No. Sorry. You can't get them either.
I don't care how many movies that douchebag above you is claiming to have raped. It's kind of fun watching people be clueless though. |

Another example:
Harold & Maude. Had a 20-something coworker watch it... all it got was a shrug of the shoulders. I fear for our future. |

Debbie Does Dallas.
I mean, it was Debbie and she was, like, totally doing* Dallas. No way kids could comprehend the significance of this. I mean, this was totally before South Fork, JR, Sue Ellen, and the rest of the crew. Fucking CRAZY! * doing = fucking |

Dougs 1st Movie. No retarded 9 year olds could comprehend the signifigance of everything becoming more expensive in the future.

This place is full of cranky oldsters today, waxing nostalgic about their youth and complaining about the kids of today.
Bah, humbug! |

Not doing that at tall. Just pointing out that some things can't be interpreted by people who didn't live in a certain time. I will fully admit I have
no clue what it was like to be an acient roman.

I was going to make my 13 y/o nephew watch Quest for the Holy Grail with me this weekend but now I'm unsure. That kind of humor is right up his alley but
I'm afraid I'll lose all hope and respect for him if he doesn't get it.

A. that's not the name of the movie
B. that movie is made for 13 year olds. If an adult thinks its as funny as a 13 year old does, they have problems or smoke too much pot. |

Oops, yeah, strike the "Quest for". (Wasn't that the name of a game or something?)

But isn't a huge part of the allure the social context of the film?
I mean I watched Midnight Cowboy, and I thought it was a great movie, but I didn't see why it was originally rated X compared to the movies of today. I can appreciate Airplane more than the spoofs of today, and I know that there were a ton of disaster movies in the 70's so in 1980 when Airplane was made you could catch the references. But one thing that makes the spoof movies entertaining for this generation is that we catch the references (because for the most part the movies they are spoofing are less than a year old), now don't think I actually saw anything past Scary Movie 2, but from the previews I can tell you what they're referencing. I was raised on Wizard of Oz, so I can still appreciate that even if the special effects are a little cheesie. It's hard to appreciate something you don't know the backrground on, so quit getting all pissy for us not having the same experiences as you. |

Dude, I was born in 85, this is after Pink Floyd's hayday (I have heard about the sync ups) I like the album, and the movie but never put them together.
That and I'm one of those freaks who has never touched weed.
