MLB.com has learned that the Yankees will part with talented right-field prospect Jose Tabata, plus three pitchers -- right-handers Ross Ohlendorf and George Kontos and left-hander Phil Coke.

Nady fills the Yankees' need for a veteran right-handed bat in the lineup, as well as an additional outfield option. The 29-year-old was pulled by the Pirates from Friday's game against the Padres at PNC Park and was batting .330 with 13 home runs and 57 RBIs in 90 games.

New York was in need of a reliable bat in the heart of the order with designated hitter Hideki Matsui likely lost for the season with a left knee injury.

Marte will slot into the Yankees' bullpen, helping fill their vacancy for a reliable left-handed reliever. Billy Traber made the club out of Spring Training, but he has bounced between the Major Leagues and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and manager Joe Girardi had taken recently to using right-hander Edwar Ramirez as the club's primary option against left-handed batters.

Marte, 33, was 4-0 with a 3.47 ERA in 47 appearances for Pittsburgh, allowing 38 hits and 18 earned runs in 46 2/3 innings. He had limited opponents to a .217 batting average, and was tougher on right-handed batters (.200, 24-for-120) than he was on left-handed batters (.255, 14-for-55).

Ohlendorf, 26, is the only player of the four that the Yankees gave up with any Major League experience. The sinker-balling right-hander appeared in 25 games for New York as a reliever this season, going 1-1 with a 6.53 ERA.

Acquired from Arizona in the January 2007 Randy Johnson trade, Ohlendorf had recently been turned back into a starter at Triple-A and, through three starts, was maintaining his velocity more.
