It's amazing how everytime the Mets play the Sillies, Victorino ALWAYS bats in the 9th. And usually gets on. I need a new law or something for him.
Phew. Nerve wracking. You can't help but flash back to last year, Mets blowing a sure fire 1st game win (Wagner-Burrell) and the Sillies sweeping them, and think about the 1st game of this series. This could have been just as ugly. This will be a dogfight to the end. Now the Cards come to town. I just hope the smug phony LaRussa gets sent out of town. Now I'm going to go work out. Get rid of the rubber legs. |

they've always been relatively high up there, but the tribune made a shitload of money off the cubs and for having such a large national fanbase and for
being in such a big media market it seemed a bit ridiculous to not be a top-5 payroll team year in and year out.
they opened up the pursestrings just before they sold the team off, though -- this is the first year they've had a payroll over $100 million ever. it would be nice if they could keep that up. a guy like canning was perceived to be in it just for a profit rather than to field a winning team, and so there was a lot of resistance to him. cuban, on the other hand, has the reputation of being willing to pay for a winner (the mavericks are one of the few NBA franchises who are quite a bit into the luxury tax territory). so people want cuban. |
