One, I don't think the ASS were supposed to make pregame alliances, and Two, the line between pregame alliances and friendships is blurry. If L, T, K and R had a pregame alliance, they were planning to cheat.

BTW I loved what happened to Diane's pregame alliance in BBAS - she quarelled with ehr roomie who spilled the beans to Erika and Janie, resulting in a BB5 pagoning.

Parvati had an uphill battle against pregame friendships too. Cirie kind of had the Big Tom role, working with Parv but still had pregame friends rooting for her. My apologies to Cirie for the comparison.

Parv had one friend from her season and one enemy. Being perceived as Ozzy's friend (or lover according to rumors Eliza heard) put a huge target on her. But since Ozzy was a huge popuality threat it meant she's have to betray a friend to win. Logic forced her to work with the S15 peeps with no pregame connections.

That's far cry from players with a huge circle of friends from other seasons. Even Fairplay hung out with Eliza, Ami, and YM at Cocoa Beach in summer 2007, while Parv and Ozzy were absent. Is it any wonder which alliance he gravitated to? Eliza partied with the casts of S10, S12, and S14 during their NY Finales, and became very tight with almost-ASS like Coby and Michelle. But the S13 Finale was in LA.

Just my gut feeling, but I believe that fear of pregame alliance was a huge part of why they went with the Fans vs Faves concept and dropped Coby and Michelle from the cast.

#8 Janelle vs James (BB6, BBAS)



This is Janie's first of two appearances. One reason she had issues with other women on both her seasons is the work of James, who did all he could to turn Ivette against Janie early in BB6 ("she has an evil soul"), and repeated the move with Diane, Erika, and Danielle in BBAS.

James became a Saverign because Kaysar recruited him, and he was alienated from them when Howie put him up for no good reason. He ended BB6 outwardly friendly with the Sovs and riding the coattails of their popularity, but inwardly seething because his game was destroyed by such a dumbass move, becaise Howie and Janie went along with his backdooring, and because Janie got all the glory..

In BBAS the Sovs were initially targeted by the hosuse and forced to work together. But James realized that he was 4th with them and sought alliances with Danielle, Chilltown and the floaters. When Janie went after Diane in week 4, he exploded with resentment, helped to turn the house against her, and started bashing her in the DR, making him public enemy #1 with BB fans.

Danielle became his main ally. She wanted to get rid of Janie and work with the Sov boys. Her HOH plans were foiled when Janie won veto, and she got stuck with a day in solitary confinement. James pretended to be friends with the Sovs but was Janie's most bitter enemy, trying to persuade Chicken George to "backdoor the bitch" when he was HOH.

Outcome. The most satisfying week ever on BB was when Janie beat James for veto ("she stole my dolly, I was harmed") and he got owned by Chilltown. Dr. Will persuaded Boogie to choose Janie over the Legion of Doom allaince. The following week Janie won veto again, setting up a Danielle boot.


#7 Sandra & Rupert vs Fairplay & Burton (S7)



Pearl Islands is the story of a tribe divided - Rupert and his loyal girls, Christa and Sandra, vs the other Drake faction. In ep.1 Sandra noticed Burton sharing a coconut with his clique and resolved to turn the tribe against them. Rupert and Burton were challenge monsters and rivals for leadership. The rivalry destroyed Drake power when they threw immunity in ep.4, each side thinking Fairplay would be the swing vote to give them control. But Rupert was kidnipped and Burton got booted. In ep.6 Faiplay joined Trish's plot against Rupert which was busted by Sandra, resulting in Rupert's Lex moment of yelling at Fairplay.

When Outcast Burton came back and teamed with Fairplay, Rupert was doomed. He survived a couple votes because they targted the more united Morgans first. When Rupert was blindsided, Sandra went basllistic, throwing out fish that he'd caught and letting Christa get blamed. She didn't buy the Dead Grandma lie but the tribe sided against her and knocked her out of the family visit challenge. The culmination of the rivalry was at F5, when Burton won the car and took Fairplay on reward, leaving Sandra and Lill to plot Burton's second boot. Who can forget Sandra telling the girls to pretend to be asleep as the guys returned from reward, or Rupert and Christa celebrating on the jury when Burton got the boot.

Outcome: Lill decided the battle in Sandra's favour. In much the same position as Nicole in BB2, she realized that Fairplay could beat her and didn't want to lose to him. Fairplay ended up voting for Sandra, whom he said could never win, but really it was a vote against Lill. He didn't respect the F2 (Sandra admitted that her win was mostly luck). Conversely Sandra and Rupert are probably the only two players who'd have voted for Lill over Fairplay.

James is one of those charaxcters I've gone back and forth on, like Rob M and Penner. I hated him with a fiery passion in BBAS, but I enjoyed him as a Sov and veto king in BB6, and felt bad for him when Howie messed up. Though even though he showed a mean side, and was trying to control Sarah's intake of food.

Some good guesses regarding the rest of the list.
Though Koror vs Ulong was too one-sided to be a great rivalry, and Steph actually had more friends on Koror.
