58. Nine Person Jury
Seasons: China Memorable Quote: "I'm good at Sudoku" -Peigh Gee while throwing a challenge This twist was the tribal switch up in China where each tribe was given a piece of parchment that said to choose the two strongest members from the opposite tribe, and they would be brought over to you. What Zhan Hu didn't know (Fei Long figured it out pretty easily) was that the other tribe would also be taking two of their members. Don't unpack was meant for James and Aaron who had a zero percent shot at both making it out of Zhan Hu alive. Still not positive why they didn't go to tribal council the second time, but I assume Jaime found out about James' idol before the challenge. Originally, I didn't think this twist was that unfair because if your tribe was smart, they could just throw the challenge and keep you. The part I didn't seem to realize was that James and Aaron/Frosti and Sherea couldn't do anything to save themselves while in enemy camp. They had no idea if their former tribemates would be throwing any challenges to keep them safe. They had no ways of communicating with them tribe to make sure it happened (well they could, but it didn't work out so well for Bubba). All they could do was work their asses off during challenges and hope it would be enough to win immunity. |

Not sure why the font is different for those, but whatever.

Total agreeance on 58. Having people on the jury that never even met some of the finalists is among the most retarded ideas this show has ever had.
I'm fairly certain that the parchment only said pick two members from the other tribe, not pick the two strongest. What people conveniently forget is that Zhan Hu was so delusional they actually thought that they weren't giving up anyone from their tribe. They actually thought they'd get to pick two people from the other tribe and be ultra strong. So this notion that they picked Aaron & James solely with the idea of throwing challenges and booting them has always been nonsense in my eyes. Yes, ultimately it was not a wise decision by the producers, but I'm not as against it as so many on this board were at the time it happened. |

Quiddity wrote: When it aired (as I said in the write up) I wasn't that against it when it happened, but Zhan Hu was planning to pick the two strongest people and vote them out. They were stupid enough to think that they'd have more people on the tribe, but I was pretty sure they were planning to get rid of James and Aaron by throwing challenges ASAP. That's also why they were so frusterated when Sherea wouldn't talk during that reward challenge. And my bad if it didn't actually say strongest, could have sworn it did though. |

ThailandSurvivor, I don't really think that Sylvia was totally a victim of circumstances. Bruce was in a similar situation and yet he survived
Casaya's second Tribal Council and made the merger even though he was sent back to Exile Island by La Mina one day after he joined Casaya. Sylvia was
viewed as bossy and annoying, not only by the alpha males but also by Michelle. She was also the eldest and weakest on her tribe and she had performed
terribly in the "slip and slide" RC in the episode where she was voted out. It is pretty much a hard and fast rule in Survivor that if a woman
attempts to assume a leadership role (eg. Sylvia) in a tribe that has men they will be viewed as bossy whereas a male assuming a leadership role (eg. Bruce)
will usually be accepted with open arms.

People didn't have past judgements of him besides 3 people from his past tribe before the tribe swap. Sure Sylvia wasn't a sure bet to go far, but the situation she was in gave her zero shot. And tullfan, I forgot to add this, but another huge reason was that I liked Sylvia. My personal bias towards certain people definitely affects how they'll
be ranked, but I've listed quite a few other reasons in my write up why it wasn't fair and an awful twist.
Oh and here's spoilers for the next three... |

I thought the switch in China was not a bad twist, it was definetly less unfair than most of the twists so far. |

I hated the China twist. Oooo lets give each tribe two free boots! Oh and make sure they're the strongest.

All they could do was work their asses off during challenges and hope it would be enough to win immunity.Actually, they had a challenge (reward?) where they each sent a tribe member into a building where they had to search for something. PG tried communicating with Sharea while both were in there together, but I think Sharea shrugged her off or something. I think PG was telling her they were throwing the challenges to save her and Frosti. PG love for being super smart. |

Great entries. I'd have the China twist even lower because it was so biased.

I thought the switch in China was not a bad twist, it was definetly less unfair than most of the twists so far. Some people liked it, some people hated it as you can see by others' posts after yours. I hated the China twist. Oooo lets give each tribe two free boots! Oh and make sure they're the strongest. Exactly what I mean. Actually, they had a challenge (reward?) where they each sent a tribe member into a building where they had to search for something. PG tried communicating with Sharea while both were in there together, but I think Sharea shrugged her off or something. I think PG was telling her they were throwing the challenges to save her and Frosti. PG love for being super smart.Well you know what I meant. Sherea didn't even respond because she didn't want Fei Long thinking that she'd flip back to Zhan Hu.
Great entries. I'd have the China twist even lower because it was so biased. Thanks, and I couldn't do that just because I originally didn't see the problem with it. Every twist (from 56 on) I can at least understand what they were trying to do even if some turned out to be complete failures.

I think with "leader divies the tribes" they anticipated that same alpha male would be chosen leader and he'd help equalize things for the
haves-nots. Sylvia went out of her way to break up alliances, which created resentment and helped screw all the Ravu girls. With alliances messed up, the
default is boot the weak.
