I had a lot of catching up to do, with the show and the thread, so now I must subject you to my opinions on stuff you guys saw and forgot about a month ago. SIA.

-The show needs to be limited to solo acts. I think pairs and trios get an unfair advantage from the judges because it's just so much easier for multiple people to have more energy and deliver a more crowd-pleasing routine than someone going out there on their own and having to rely on strong material. Two twins talking over each other or some stupid trio singing songs about Irish tans is not funny.

-The first Vegas show, I could not understand any of the five picks besides Paul Foot (who is probably my favorite at this point; even though I hated his first audition and didn't think he should've gone through, everything he's done since has been amusing to me, although it looks like I'm in the minority here). Ron G spent two minutes doing a whiny voice in place of actual comedy; I have despised God's Pottery from the start (how such a one-note act made it that far makes no sense to me); Adam Hunter is possibly the least original comedian I've seen in years; and Jeff Dye was funny but there were better acts. The Israeli prop comic not making it through was a shame; I hate prop comics but he was great. Maybe it was just the delivery or something but I would've loved to see him go on. Erin Jackson not making it through didn't make much sense either.

-The second show, I was so disappointed not to see Mary Mack get through; I thought she was hysterical. Dan Cummings was great too. But the only complete WTF? pick here for me was Sean Cullen. The porn song was too repetitive and barely got any laughs, and the same goes for his "What happens in Vegas..." "jokes"--which is a shame because I loved his "I'm gonna slice off your face, put mine over it, make love to your girlfriend, she'll say 'Oh, that's much better'..." routine.

-I found Papa CJ pretty funny...the first time he did what apparently is the only routine he has. Open with, "Nowadays even your comedy is being outsourced." Go into a lengthy bit about how you always talk to an Indian person when you call tech support. Make some joke about how he would worship a man in the audience's absent and supposedly unattractive wife "because in my country, cows are considered sacred." Look at another man in the audience, say "Oh my, this guy is just thinking 'Can he really say that? They're going to kill him.'" Comment that death is ok, because he is Hindu and would be reborn. In fact, he may even be reborn as that man's child and suck on his wife's boobs. Then remark that he doesn't care if he offended anyone before leaving the stage. Rinse, lather, repeat.

-If they needed to have an international "let me list all the stereotypes about my culture and call it stand-up" comic, it should've been the Muslim lady. The material was all about the same subject, but at least she had some variety. But maybe I'm just looking at it through a white guy's perspective, but this sort of stuff is so tired. (As an aside, this is why I don't understand why Chris Rock always makes Top Comedians lists--I like a lot of his stuff and Everybody Hates Chris is a good show, but his act hasn't changed since the early 90s. The punchlines may be updated but it's still the same.)

-Louis is easily the technically best comic of the bunch. Jim Tavare is good but he needs the bass to really stand out from the crowd. I like Marcus but once you get past the impressions, the material isn't that strong, although I loved the Willy Wonka routine since the "There's no earthly way of knowing..." song has been an inside joke with friends of mine so that was cool.

-Esther and Iliza? Yeah, both hot as hell. And pretty funny too; although Esther did fall too much into that "haha, here are some stereotypes about my culture" line. I loved Iliza's delivery on the "You fought a shark--and won!" line.

-Obligatory anal sex reference to see if anyone's still reading.

-As much as I absolutely detested God's Pottery, I was pretty amused by their "Yo mama" jokes. And to be honest, I actually thought they did the best job between them/Esther/Iliza. But I'm not sad to see them go at all and I'm glad Iliza pulled through. I have to agree with the people who said that God's Pottery are great offstage. They never break character and in that sense they're pretty amusing reality show characters. One of them needs to apply to Big Brother and just play that role the whole time.

-Obviously I like Iliza but I was amused by this chain of events:
Papa CJ: "I vote for Iliza."
Papa CJ: Sorry.
Iliza: Don't apologize, that means you made a crappy decision and you regret it.
...
Iliza: "I vote for Esther. She has such a powerful laugh...I think she should be sharing it with the world and not us."
[Esther gives a sad glance]
Iliza: I didn't mean it, it was a joke...

-This is my first season watching, and I have to say, that top 10 jokes countdown had to be inaccurate or else I've missed out on absolutely nothing. There were only two that I found funny at all, the old lady and the fat black guy.

-If I didn't have stage fright, I'd love to audition for this. I probably wouldn't make it through but as they say in the voting, I know I'm funnier than Adam Hunter, God's Pottery, and Ron G. Of course finding a dead puppy on the side of the road is a funnier experience than any of their acts, but I digress. I did a semi-stand-up routine in a high school class at the end of the year and got a good response but that was in front of maybe 20 people and I still literally went to the bathroom and threw up out of nervousness right before. I was fine once I was up there but the anticipation killed me. If I ever need a hardcore weight-loss strategy though, then I'll look into it.

-Well, actually, I'm white, male, straight, thin, not bald, and don't have any odd physical or mental deformalities, so I wouldn't be able to do any stereotype routines which are like the only way to actually get through. Oh well.
