A lot of military wives are pissy about the show. They think it should be teaching the public what it's like to be a military wife. Well, that wouldn't make for an interesting show.

Most of the negitive things I've seen on the show have a hint of truth to them. I know wives that are more catty than the ones on the show and would twist a little things so far that it didn't resemble what happened. We also had a couple girls that ended up pregnant when their husbands were deployed and it wasn't their husbands child.

I don't live on post and never would. We get almost 1500 for housing and can get a nicer place on the economy than what we'd get if we lived on post (although we pay some out of pocket because we want a bigger place). The lower enlisted can't really afford to do it. Oh, and no one gets on post housing when they first show up. They do write tickets for unmown lawns (although the housing is now privately run so the rules are changing).

The rank thing is just uncomfortable. The guys can't hang out with eachother because of fraternization rules. So you can't hang out as couples unless everyone is the same rank. Even with wives there can be problems. I had a friend who dumped me because her husband was given an assignment that she didn't like by my husband. I knew others that had problems with people making accusations of favoritism because someone was friends with the 1SG's wife. It's just uncomfortable. I like having friends who arn't in the army.

I know the notification process backwards and forwards and was there minutes after a wife was notified. Joe, your friend doesn't have the details correct (and it's DA policy so it's the same everywhere).

When they know somthing happens they have a four hour clock in which to notify the primary next of kin (wife) they have to get the details and make sure they have the correct person (We had two SGT Grey's in our company which had to be figured out when we had a wife that needed to be notified) and get all the details correct.

They make phone calls if it's an injury (although some units will make a visit in a different uniform if it's a traumatic injury) often the soldier has already called if they are able.

If it's a death they visit the home of the primary next of kin (wife) in their greens (an officer an NCO and the chaplin if avalible). They will only do notifications during waking hours unless they are worried that the incident will hit the news and then they will do it in the middle of the night. If the wife is not home they will go to their work or drive away and come back and they start making discrete inquiries as to where the person has gone and getting into their financial records if nessicary to locate them. After the primary next of kin is notified they notify the secondary next of kin (parents).

After the notification takes place some units will send in a team of wives that will go in immedietly and stay with the spouse so that she is not left alone (I did this once) as long as she needs and will take care of meals, guests, phone calls ect. . .

They really try to get the spouse notified as quickly as possible so that wives don't see somthing happen on TV and freak out thinking that it's thier spouse. Generally by the time it's been on TV the spouse has been notified. I had a parent of a single soldier that would call me every time they saw somthing on TV for reasurrance.
