It HAS to be why there where polar bears on that island. Its the only sense you could make of that. Its an incredibly cold climate down that cave. A Dahrma polar bear wearing a harness ended up in a desert just like Ben did?What I was trying to say but didn't make clear was that Dharma (wearing a parka) went into the chamber & traveled to a remote polar station (as evidenced by Penny's guys hanging out in one) & got the polar bears then transported back to the Orchid chamber.
Obviously they had misfires & the bears didn't land back on the island but in the desert wearing the Dharma harness. The bear we saw in the desert had been dead awhile.
And obviously the bears that were kept in cages on Hydra escaped during the chaos of the purge.
The whole thing fits. At least it does for me.
