When I first saw Anthony Bourdain on Top Chef, I hated him.. with a passion. I thought he was a condescending twit. I realized I was only half right.. he's
not a twit. I actually enjoy his appearances now. And he's funny.

I'd say the "other great female chefs who have made it this far" weren't in the bottom 2/3 nearly every week. What do you make of that? Besides, if it's sexism that's causing us to hate Lisa, why then don't we hate Stephanie? Why don't we hate Antonia (well, I do, but most people here don't)? |

I love Bourdain. If he was a regular judge, it would make me very very happy.

I dislike Lisa because A.) she is a bitch and B.) she has never made anything that looks remotely good to me. I didn't like Tiffany season 1 but I still
felt she deserved to be in the finals.(Though I feel Lee Ann was much better than her!) Lisa has done nothing to deserve to be there. I read Bourdain's
blog and I like him but I still can't help but feel they stacked the deck to get a female winner.

Yeah, her haircut was jaw-dropping in the previews, but so were her hips. I had to rewind to verify her left buttock was not a surprise guest finalist.

Lisa is a no talent douche bag who would be doing the culinary world a favor if she lost all of her fingers in a freak chopping accident. Richard/Stef would be
an amazing final two. I really wouldnt care who won as I think they are both top notch.

http://eater.com/archives/2008/05/eaterwire_spike.php BREAKING Exclusive: Top Chef Spike Out, Top Chef Lisa In at Mai House
In the best twist in the history of Top Chef, and one the producers didn't write themselves, reliable sources confirm that Top Chef
4's Spike Mendelsohn has been fired at Mai House. His replacement is-this dramatic pause brought to you by GE Monogram
appliances-Top Chef 4's Lisa Fernandes. Indeed, Drew Nieporent has replaced one Top Cheffer with another, while both are
still in the running to win. (Although this is a foreboding development, indeed.) And the New York restaurant scene just got a little more ridiculous. Colors
our source: "Drew told Spike please pack your knives and go to DC to grill hamburgers." NB: last week Spike noted at the Taste of the Nation event that he would have to start devoting time to his burger
shop soon and that his next restaurant would be "Casa Mono-esque". Update: Says Drew Nieporent, who is not affiliated with Bun,
"Lisa's not the chef. She and Spike are just friends from the show." Uh huh. Maybe she'll stop by and help out.

what happened to tiffany? why haven't we heard about her, or she doesn't have a blog or been some kind of judge?
also, something I would love to see. when bravo does all its reruns, instead of doing marathons, wouldn't it be great to see all the restaurant wars back to back, the wedding wars, the finales. actually compare the seasons and compare the various chefs at the challenges. |

manupilating the judging (something I don't actually have an opinion on but it is amusing to read), that is quite different fom saying it's "the
only way a female can win". I don't care for the whole male/female thing, the best chef should win, period.
I am, however, of the opinion that Lisa does not belong in the final four out of the group of contestants this season, whether she is female, male, monkey,
goat. She may be an okay cook, but she hasn't done well on the show, if not in the bottom three, she was near it; her ONE win was from a team challenge,
when her teammates Dale and Stephanie created equally (IMO) good dishes, but she got the prize because the judges liked the miso-glazed beacon...something they
never had before but I'd bet good money Lisa did not come up with that on her own, but picked it up somewhere.

I wish Jennifer, Dale or even Andrew were going to Puerto Rico instead of Lisa. But I guess this brings some drama. I really like Stephanie and Richard.
I'd be content with either of them winning. Or even Antonia. It's been a good season. I am still feeling bad about Dale going home. He should have
let Lisa be the executive chef, then he would probably be going to PR. Oh, well! I hope that Dale gets a great job. I can't believe I'm mourning his
absence. He can be such a jerk, but he can cook.
Dale was stupid to cook the deconstructed entre. That was just a ridiculous dish for a steak house. And Spike should have asked if he could go back into the freezer to pick a different meat for his entre. Maybe he assumed that he could not. If it was just pride preventing him from switching out, then he totally deserved the heave-ho. I can't wait for the next epi. Squeee! |

They were in his walk-in... | ||

... but they aren't on his menu.
Scallops, that is. Follow this link to the menu of Tramonto's Steak and Seafood (the home page is the Cenitare group - www.cenitare.com - which is Tramonto's restaurant holding company) and I don't see scallops on there anywhere. Hence, those half-assed scallops were probably "extra" food brought in to give the chefs more choices ... or if you're a conspiracy theorist, some sub-standard items were stocked in the walk-in to add potential drama (which would sound like something GR would do on HK). BTW, on his menu ... who can respect appetizer choices named "Gilligan" or "The Skipper"?? |

Who is more deserving to be in the final 4, Dale last year or Lisa this year?Hands down, Dale last year. Winners from best to worst: 1. Harold- The only winner I've liked, and the only winner who i thought was actually the best in the Finals. (In my perfect world, Lee Ann would have won) 2. Hung- He can cook, but his personality sucks balls. 3. Ilan- Yeah, he beat Marcel, great. But he really was utter crap. Sam should have won. |

I believe that he could NOT change proteins. After he won the Quickfire, one of the other chefs (Lisa?) had a sour-grapes confessional saying that she was glad she hadn't won because she wouldn't want to be locked into an impulsive choice without the option of changing... Who is more deserving to be in the final 4, Dale last year or Lisa this year? Dale (although I would have rather seen Brian. <3 Also, from best to worst, how would you rank the winners of Top Chef (in likability and performance on the show)? 1. Hung (I give added points to innovation -Harold is good, but he's extremely safe and conventional - and this is the only year the best chef won) 2. Harold (third best his year, following LeeAnn and Tiffany). 3. Ilan (forget Sam - Ilan shouldn't have even beaten Marcel. From the judges' commentary during the final meal, it was clear that Marcel was better) |

I believe that he could NOT change proteins. After he won the Quickfire, one of the other chefs (Lisa?) had a sour-grapes confessional saying that she was glad she hadn't won because she wouldn't want to be locked into an impulsive choice without the option of changing...Yes he could. In post-show interviews, and even on the show, the judges have basically said he should have changed his protein. No one has said anything about him not being able to. Even reading Anthony Bourdain's it becomes quite evident that Spike had the opportunity to change his protein, he just wanted to make the scallops work. This was evident from the show also. If you pay attention to Spike's wording and the way he says he doesn't want to change proteins, it becomes quite obvious that he CHOSE not to. |

I'm right on point with Drew's rankings:
1 -- Hung (He & Tre were the 2 best last season and the 2 I most want to try their tasting menus) Big Gap 2 -- Harold (Nice guy, but nothing spectacular. LeeAnn & Bitch Face were better. Stephen's food & wine pairings interested me the most) List should end here, because the other winner should never be named 3 -- Douchey Doucherson (Marcel clearly should have won, based on the comments of the judges and his earlier successes. Who cares if he forgot something, when he was able to still salvage the dish and impress? Who cares if he has a Wolverine hair-do? Who cares if he is perceived as cocky? and who cares if you are intimidated by gastro-molecular stuff? Marcel did some pretty amazing stuff in season 2 and impressed some serious culinary peeps. He was robbed big time.) |
