This, of course is not so much the problem of the game but rather Truckwaffle's ego, which ironically led to his demise. Original Airai had the numbers to easily Pagong the old people (even with Plan Voodoo ver. 2), yet they chose to get rid of Mary (I don't recall SEG forcing anyone to vote her off - otherwise there would be another Stacy Stillman situation). Regardless of the game system, you can't account for the castaways' actions (ie Kathy and the machete, Erik giving up immunity, Joel wanting to be the alpha of Airai), so you can't really say that the game itself is flawed based upon people's jacked up decisions (well, you can and you have, but it's not very rational). The show needs better casting. Period.

"Leif Garret" was a strong guy, and you neglect to mention that all four guys that made the merge were strong. Also, under your system, things would've turned out the same way, because you know what happened? Once the game got individual, the strongest players were seen as threats and needed to be taken out, and they were, while the weaker players stuck around. Someone like "the hippo" Cirie would make it to the end even easier under your system than she did twice under the current system.

I mean, the boring young bitches like Amanda, Alexis, Mary (and to a lesser extent Parvati and Natalie) would've been booted early. Then the boring alpha males would've been booted just after the merge. And we could've had a final five of Chet/Tracy/Kathy/Cirie/Whichever Alpha Male was the last one standing, probably Erik again.

I say alpha males because under your system, the alpha females will be less likely to make the merge due to the fact that they're more likely to lose a challenge than an alpha male, and thus they'll be major targets. Using the cast from Micronesia, I would say the merged tribe would probably be Cirie/Tracy/Chet/Kathy (the weaker players) and Erik/Ozzy/Jonathan/Mikey/James/Amanda (No Joel, because he's pretty much a one hit wonder with the strength aspect, so a mental or balance challenge would get him eliminated). Then odds are, Ozzy and James would be targets early on due to their strength, Mikey would be a target due to his strength and personality, and at that point, the weaker players would outnumber the strong, so they could pick who the fifth member of the final 5 would be, probably Amanda.
