Flip the cards - what if a Dave called Greg a 'blackboy'? Only douchebags with no sense of context or history would bring up this argument. Hmm, I'll elaborate since I can't seem to get any sleep anyway. "Whiteboy" is merely divisive. "Blackboy" on the other hand- in the context of American society with its long history of institutionalized violence against blacks and other minorities- would be divisive AND would not fail to be an implicit sanction of all the racialist, racist ideological bs which one can find in the very fabric of American history, especially against blacks. Thus, both terms are indeed offensive and supposed to be, but they're nothing equal. You'd have to be a tard with little or no real experience of racism to believe otherwise. Greg was wrong to say it, Will was wrong to say what he said, and Dave was wrong for his actions as well. The person above stated that both terms are divisive but pointed out the perspective of how the terms were used in the historical perspectives. Read a history book or academic journals... and not just the fluffy, "America is perfect" text books and journals. If you think "history has changed" (I didn't know one can change history) then I see why you can not grasp this concept. This idea is not just for race relations, but extends to gender, religion, etc. Yes times have progressed but we are not a Utopian society that has learned from all past mistakes. We are learning and are more developed but unfortunately we are still paying for the mistakes of our forefathers. Even if you look at this year's election, race and gender have been at the forefront of the Democratic battles and discussions. If we were so progressive and close to perfect people would not even need to incessantly point out Hillary's gender and Barack's race. ::jumps off soap box:: Moving on to more important things: Hopefully we will see both new people next week! It's time for a change and some new story lines!

And - Mr. Whitefolks didn't just equate "white boy" to "black boy," he also equated it to the one roommate's very insensitive remarks about "ghetto" people and living in the inner city and whatever else that judgmental bitch said. He said that it was worse. So, let's start with that argument. Calling someone a "white boy" while talking to them is hardly the same as making ignorant generalizations about people. It's confrontational, divisive,etc...but it's not the same. Then there was the argument that "white boy" is the same as "black boy". Calling a black man "boy" just has a different confrontation than calling someone "white boy." And yes it is because of the history and derogation of black men and the intentional use of the word "boy" and refusal to call them men in any circumstance to put them in their place. Deal with it, that's the reality of it. The "boy" thing is just different. It doesn't make "white boy" right, but it is clearly not the same. There are a lot of words that were used in certain ways historically to denegrate and still carry the stigma today - they aren't just limited to words to which African Americans might take offense. I'm sure most minorities have a list.

Tell that to the committed lesbian or homosexual couple who want to solidify their commitment to one another while some of their heterosexual counterparts take marriage for granted as evidenced by the high divorce rate, annulments, and infidelity rates. You mentioned that you are Jewish. Are you male or female? If you are an educated female you know where im coming from and you recognize societal relations whether you agree with them or not. If you are male, you still come out ahead because you are perceived as a heterosexual white male.
