Marquesas finale. I'm still waiting to see Africa and the other Marquesas episodes because I didn't have OLN at the time they were aired and they
haven't re-aired them since (which really pisses me off, along with the fact that they're still not on DVD). The first full season I saw was obviously
Thailand so it still holds a special place in my heart

What the fuck, I'm a bit late. Cook Islands was my first full season, but I saw a couple episodes of Palau before that and thought it was cool so I decided
to watch Survivor for real.

I watched bits and pieces of Africa (mainly TCs, just to follow it), but there was only one household TV at that time and the rest of the family wasn't interested. Then Paschal English, a judge from our 10,000-person town made it on Marquesas, and we watched every episode. I was hooked for life. Well, up until Fiji - I stopped watching it around EP5 or so and started back with the China premiere. |

I saw the Tribal Council where BB was voted out but, I started watching religiously from ep.3 of Africa. I remember the twist really shocked me.

I literally remember Sonja's boot and watched the vast majority of the first and second season, then I watched casually for the next 4 seasons. While I
did watch on and off for the next few years, it wasn't until Palau that I becamed hooked (also coinsiding with finding Sucks)

My first episode was Episode 4 of Borneo. My cousin got me hooked (although he hates the show now).

I was a fan of Survivor before episode 1 ever aired. I heard about it because Howard Stern used to talk about what a crazy idea for a show it was going to be
("People are going to die on TV! They are going to starve to death! It's unbelievable!") He hyped it for weeks and weeks before it ever aired
on TV, so I was sufficiently excited to sit down and watch the premiere. Although I do remember being sort of disappointed with episode 1. I didn't like
the fact that the players were going to be voted off of the island. For some reason in the preshow materials they didn't mention that fact. They let
people believe it was going to be more of a survival of the fittest. So I was a little disappointed about the whole "voting off" aspect of the show,
and I also thought the host (Jeff Probst) was a joke. In fact I remember reading a bunch of Survivor message boards after episodes 1 and 2 and the thing most
people hated about the show was the host. People used to trash Probst pretty mercilessly.
I also remember liking Stacey because she had big tits. I wasn't super hooked by Survivor until like the third or fourth episode. In fact I don't think most people were until I'd say episode five. That was the point in time when people really started to talk about it. Up through the first few episodes, it was way too predictable (the small and the weak and the old get picked off). Starting in episode five, with Dirk's dismissal, there was some actual strategy involved. And yes as one poster pointed out, this was back when it was just known as "Survivor", not Borneo. And then Australia was known as "the sequel to Survivor." I don't think they started rewriting history and calling season 1 "Borneo" until fairly recently. |

My first FULL episode was episode 2 of Borneo, but I did see the tribal council from episode 1 when Sonja was voted out. I was a huge fan from then through
Guatemala. From EI through Fiji I sort of stopped caring and China got me hooked again.

I didn't like the fact that the players were going to be voted off of the island. For some reason in the preshow materials they didn't mention that fact. They let people believe it was going to be more of a survival of the fittest. They didn't make a big deal about people being voted out. I remember reading about it, where the group (at the time I didn't know they would be split into tribes) would gather and vote someone out. I always envisioned them being in this small bamboo hut on the beach and just getting rid of someone. I thought it would be people just quitting and then they would be voted out. I never imagined strategy would be involved until Hatch spoke up about it in episode 4. Then it made sense, and by the end of the first episode, I was crossing my fingers in hopes that they wouldn't vote out Rudy. I also hated Susan Hawk to end and wanted her to be voted out every week. Now I can look back and realize that she is by far one of the best characters the show has ever seen and probably the best female to ever be on the show. Yes, better than Jerri Manthey. I prefer raw and real over the drama queens. Can you imagine if Jerri tried to give a final speech like Susan? It would have come off as so ridiculous and over-the-top. Okay, back on topic....I've probably posted this in this thread somewhere, but I was a season 1, episode 1 viewer and was hooked instantly to the point where I hosted a Survivor game with seven of my friends playing before the first season was even over with. |
