If they deal with it and win, it's worth all the tedious tasks. Top Chef isn't for wannabe line cooks. It's for (minus Nikki) accomplished chefs who want to prove that they can get through any task (whether it be catering an entire wedding with no more than a day to prep for it or making airline food or cooking the best fucking microwaveable baby food EVER) and deserve the win. They're not pulling McDonalds workers and putting them onto the show. All of the contestants are either executive chefs or sous chefs and deserve to be there (excluding Nikki).

Those people would be caught dead appearing on Hell's Kitchen.

Richard was immediately unlikeable because of the stupid ass haircut. Yes, it was superficial... but most of the time, IMHO, haircuts like his are on the top of dickheads (or lesbians). He has shown himself to be likeable, to me, as the show has progressed. He's a little goofy and he can cook.

Spike has his moments, but Lisa is SO damn negative, and so quick to point out annoying traits in others that she can't see in herself I can't stand it. Though Dale does have a bit of a temper (though being up for almost 40 hours would strain anyone's self control) he's definitely coming off better (on a while) then Lisa is.

Does Anthony Bourdain count? True, chefs don't appreciate overuse of the microwave, but in Kitchen Confidential he does refer to chefs using one (though sparingly).

All the quickfire tests aren't to produce dishes that they'd put on a menu. They're to test how creative they can be, how much they know about the ingredients and how well they work together, given a really tight set of parameters. I really think anyone could come up with a wonderful, great tasting dish if they had (and devoted) an unlimited amount of time, ingredients, etc., to perfect it. The quickfire silliness shows how much instinctual know-how they have.

He's a little goofy and he can cook. It is curious how so many have sported faux-hawks. But after some thought, and it makes some sense. One of my pet peeves are chefs with mounds of hair. It gives me visions of hair in my foie gras. So keeping their hair short makes a lot of sense if that's your chosen career. The faux-hawk allows them, they think, to inject a little personality into a short haircut. I'm not sure it does, but I can't hate on them for it.

I hate seeing Paula cooking in her diamonds. gross. and these are great chefs. extremely talented. they do own their own restaurants or are executive chefs at other top restaurants. the black guy from Dallas on another season (Trey, maybe) was on iron chef. sure, as a sous chef. but the big chef was his boss from the Dallas restaurant. so Trey didn't come into this as a night cook from Denny's. and some of the quickfire challenges are specifically designed to test their skills. like identifying foods by smell, their chopping skills, their ability to think quick on their feet and pull something out of nothing. shit, show me a line cook that can cut a chicken like hung. to this day, Tom is still impressed. I wish they would have a gadget competition like they did last season. Richard would be in his heyday. GO RICHARD, ftw!

Even though I can rationalize Lisa being booted because she is a marginally talented, whiny, fugly lesbian too, so there we are. I hate Lisa. What a squinty eyed sourpuss face at judging panel. I like Richard. I didn't start out liking him, and a lot of that had to do with his doofy looks, but he's proven himself to be quite the gentleman. I'd be shocked if he starts acting an ass. Sam's eyes are set way too close together (beady), he's got pursed 'little lips and the shorn head is really unattractive. I question his taste in footwear as well. All of this equals Not Hot for me. I like Dale. I was loving that he was in the top 3 (and WON) and Lisa was in the bottom 3. I hate Lisa. Dunno if I mentioned that. Antonio hasn't really shown me any redeemable qualities aside from the "Smell Mop Whoo." Stephanie is very cute and cuddly looking. A few more pounds and she could be Deena on "Samantha Who?" I don't care for Spike. He always looks dirty to me. I don't want a chef who looks filthy to be cooking my food. And nice crap salad there, Machiavelli. Pffft. Moron.
