I don't think the press or the rest of the world would have figured out that the plane on the bottom of the ocean was a fake, because if so, there would have been more of an uproar, and Oceanic wouldn't be holding a press conference, they'd be out of business or under investigation. We have to assume for the sake of the plot line that somehow the story adds up in the end, and that they become miracle survivor celebrities. It's possible that there were some passengers not accounted for, or at least that Oceanic could put a post-discovery spin on the story to indicate that a mistake was made in the first reporting of the crash site discovery. We don't know for sure whether Naomi's statement about "you're all dead" was pure fact versus an exaggeration, do we? Was there some other information on the news story that the helicopter pilot saw indicating that they had matched all of the bodies with the manifest?

Anyway, there are definitely holes in the story, there always are, but I'm willing to see where it takes us. I thought there was a lot of good setup last night. And the scene with Jack and Claire's mom was great. Even though we knew that Jack was Claire's sister, we didn't know when or how he found out, and the reveal was perfectly executed, with the grandson only a few feet away and the picture of Christian Shepherd watching from the altar. Ouch. Fox played it very well, as though he were in serious pain with all the thoughts and emotions rushing through his head, but at the same time using everything he had to hold it together and not reveal the truth. That's a serious moral dilemma. No wonder the guy hits rock bottom.
