It seemed really really fake to me with Kevin. He's slow talking and I hate his character, but no one would really think he's a retard, but that's how the show played it up.

The HR person was told he was retarded, so she interpreted his actions based on her trust of Dwight and not wanting to appear insensitive. Kevin, thinking she was being extra nice for a reason, started doing that dopey-nice thing guys do when they like somebody, and it got a lot easier to see him as retarded. Not only was it great for how it played off Kevin's charcter, it was also a brilliant prank for Dwight to play. Kevin going after the HR lady was also a nice play on the main theme of the show, not waiting too long.

Besides, I nearly killed myself laughing at, "This is a button," so it had to be good!

I didn't like the HR girl role at all, either. Once again, it's a matter of subtlety. Evidently they want to create some tension between Jan (who is not having Michael's baby, which was pretty funny) and a sane, likeable female character who seems perfect for Michael. But why not introduce her character with a touch of patience, rather than establishing right away that she's just perfect for Michael

The big theme tonight was "not waiting too long". Michael had a perfect person right in front of him, and he chickened out and went with the sure thing that makes him miserable. Jim chickened out and didn't propose to Pam anyways, which has her wondering if he really intends to do so. Since she's leaving for three months (I told you folks she would), this doubt could seriously threaten the relationship. I took her line about Toby being cute not as her expressing doubts about Jim, but rather showing that Toby also waited too long. He could have had Pam if he'd acted at the right time, but he chickened out and now he's off to Costa Rica alone. Dwight was the final "waited too long" person. He knew that Angela still had feelings for him ("oh D"), but he didn't act and Andy did. Now he's trying to make up for it and win her back.

Given that theme, I think it was reasonable that the intro on the HR lady was rushed. It fit the theme, it fit Michael's character (remember him rushing into the relationship with his realtor, or falling for the chair model), and it established the HR lady character quickly. I would have been more disappointed if Michael didn't rush to judgement on her, since careful consideration is not part of his character at all.

I doubt it. He still has the vasectomy. Besides, having it really be his baby or having him think it might be completely changes his motivation for going back to Jan. He's not doing this because it's the right thing, which it would be if it was his child. He's doing it despite it being the wrong thing, because he's desperate to be loved and terrified of things failing with HR girl. Remember that line that was something like, "I'm beginning to think you can have sex or a family, but you can't have both"? He chose the one where he'd be loved the most.
