Goldeneye 007 (Nintendo 64)


OMG!!! All hail the greatness that is Goldeneye 007!

I first played this game waaaaaaaaay back when it originally came out. I rented it, and beat it in just one weekend. A few weeks later, I was all like "Damn, that Goldeneye game was fun", so I rented it another weekend. And cruised through it again. A month or so later, I was getting the urge to play it again, except this time I took the plunge and actually bought it. Now when you are in high school and living off a 5 dollar per week allowance, 40 dollars seems like a lot of money. Now, looking back, and I can say it was money well spent. Although I have played this game more times that I have masturbated (OK maybe that's a stretch) I STILL love it and can pick it up and play it even now. Now that is the mark of a great game.

For those of you unfamiliar () this game is a first person shooter based on the Goldeneye movie starring Pierce Brosnan. Playing as 007, you must make your way through many missions, battling enemies and doing spyish tasks along the way. Back in the N64 days, this game was revolutionary. The graphics are amazing, the sound and music are fantastic, and the game is just flat out fun. Environments and levels are very well designed and thought out. A lot of the effects in the game are cool too. You can break windows, destroy shit, and leave "battle scars" all over the place. While that may seem normal now, back in the day it was one of a kind.

One thing that I did not realize about this game until after I bought it was the awesomeness of the multiplayer mode. Up to four people can duke it out split creen style in head to head competition. This is incredibly fun and competitive to play with friends. Another major revolution in multiplayer gaming on the N64.

The single player mode is great too. The levels are pretty easy on the easies difficulty. Gets harder on the middle dificulty (more objectives come up for each level). Is pretty much friggin impossible on the hardest difficulty. I played this game reliogiously and beat it on all three difficulties. When you do that, you open up two bonus levels, extra characters for multiplayer, and another difficulty level. I never bothered to play it on that difficulty because the last difficulty was darn near impossible by itself.

This game is a freaking revolutionary legend, and you all need to go get it if you don't have it already. This is a timeless classic.
