Okay. That was easily the most amazing epi not just this season, but over the past three seasons. I thought we got great clues at where this story is going, and where it has been. But the best part was that Roger Linus was played by Jon Gries...UNCLE RICO! Flippin' sweet, Kip! Wonder if he had any tots on that island. LOL Anway, here's my take on WTF is going on.

Ben is a dirty liar. He is a manipulator and he is smart as hell. We'll get back to this in a minute.

Richard and his "hostile" group intrigue me. So Richard doesn't age? What about the rest of the Hostiles? It was confirmed by the DHARMA folk that the Hostiles have been on the island before DHARMA. They called them the "natives". I believe the Hostiles have been around for a LONG time and I think they may have been part of a cult or religion. There is definitely some supernatural power amongst them. My theory is that they believe in the teachings of JACOB. However, NONE of them have ever seen JACOB. Something tells me that we will find out that the teachings of JACOB foretell of a a great "Messiah" that would one day arrive on the island to help the followers of JACOB. However, the followers would have to be patient for that coming...just like Richard stated.

So one day, a young bug-eyed little Ben in wondering through the jungle, and Richard runs into him. Ben tells Richard that he sees his dead mother and Richard assumes this kid must be the "Messiah" that these followers of Jacob have been waiting for. Richard heralds in little Ben as the Messiah and puts ALL of his trust in Ben to take him to the promised land. The Hostiles kill the DHARMA folk off to free up Ben...and the lies begin. As does Ben's GOD complex.

So here we go getting back to Ben's lies. He has been GROOMED to lie. He has been set-up for failure. He IS NOT the Messiah that the followers of JACOB have been hoping for. So what does he do? He plays along. With eyes (BIG ones) and ears, he listens to the Hostiles talk about what they believe, about JACOB, and he capitilizes. What else does he have to do? Where else does he have to go? This is his family now. He can't let them down. So he pretends. He lies. He even goes so far to tell them that he has spoken to JACOB. And they buy it...but for how long?

Years pass, and Ben's ruse is still in full effect, but its holding on by a thread. We can see the rift begin. Tom, Richard, Juliet and Alex are beginning to see through it. They are waiting for Ben to fall. They want to be rid of him and his lies. But like any faithful, devout religious person, Richard remains patient. He believes in the teachings of JACOB...and believes that there IS a "Messiah". But who is he?

Fast forward to the day flight 815 crashes on the island. Bug-eye, needle-dick liar barges out of his house and orders lists to be made.

Back at the beach, a miserable, handicapped man, who has never amounted to anything in his "pathetic little life" lies in the sand. But suddenly, he is able to move his legs. He KNOWS this place is special and he feels reborn...reborn to claim his destiny.

When word gets back to Ben that there is a man who was unable to walk, who is now fully functional on two legs, eyebrows are raised. When Ben finds out more about this JOHN LOCKE, he quickly begins to feel threatened. Ben has spinal surgery and is stuck in his own wheelchair for awhile. Even Locke acknowledged that Ben wonders why he was stuck in a wheelchair, while John, a parapalegic, was able to walk immediately after a fiery plane crash. But Ben doesn't wonder why he is stuck in the wheelchair. He knows he's a fraud. He's just wondering why John Locke is so damn special. He's scared. He knows that Locke IS the Messiah the Others have been waiting for. He needs to eliminate this threat before he is exposed as a fraud. But how does he do it?

Ben attempts to get Locke to commit the greatest sin. To kill. He wants him to kill his father. And there's the rub. Locke wants answers from Ben, then Locke's gotta kill. Why does he want him to kill? Perhaps, this expected Messiah is supposed to be free of sin. Surely, a murderer couldn't be the Messiah. And Locke proved that HE was not a murderer...just smarter than Ben. As John brings the corpse of his sperm donor to Ben and demands answers, Ben doesn't know what the hell to do. Locke even calls Ben out in front of his followers! LOL So Ben is backed into a corner. So he takes John to see JACOB.

They get to JACOB's cozy little nook, and Ben starts a conversation with himself. This little bastard doesn't see anybody and he's not talking to anybody...but Locke DOES. This is it as far as Ben is concerned. Locke hears JACOB. Locke is just unsure of what he heard. If Locke goes back and discusses what happened with the Others, then they begin to question Ben as this chosen Messiah, and begin to put their faith in John Locke. Surely, Ben CAN NOT let that happen. If he is exposed as a fraud, where does he go? He'll be all alone and by himself...just as he felt when he was stuck with his dead-beat daddy. So, he acts as cowardly as he is and attempts to kill Locke. Ben doesn't even believe in JACOB himself, as he taunts John "Maybe JACOB will help you."

So here we are. Ben still thinks his ruse is in tact. Competition is gone. But John Locke said it himself; "This is his destiny". And nothing gets in the way of a person determined to meet their destiny. Not a dead-beat daddy, not a bullet, and not even a wheelchair.
