Actually, I think the "fans vs. favorites" aspect was executed to near-perfection. For the most part, the game has been controlled by the experienced players, who have manipulated the fans (sometimes against other "favorites"). Tonight's an example: Natalie wouldn't have dreamed up that play ... and no experienced player would have fallen for it.

Good point. Part of the inherent problem for the fans, however, is that they were weighed down by a certain level of "hero worship" and deference to the favorites, which forced them into a secondary role in the game and hindered them somewhat from making really bold moves against their "idols." Another thing that put them at a HUGE disadvantage was that aside from not having the survival and game experience of the favorites, they also didn't have the easy familiarity and ready-made bonds (skeptics might say pre-game alliances) that the favorites had going in. This put the fans on the outside looking in, with no real chance to break into an alliance with any of the favorites except for manipulation purposes to vote someone out.
