Does Brooke have Pat Benatar's singing voice? Does David C. have Michael Jackson's singing voice? NO. but they all scored big when they did radically changed songs originated by these artists...

Drew B you're saying that stuff assuming the judges care and make good assessments.

I can't actually see the judges raging on people for "ruining" Mariah songs by changing them up even though any other week they'd rag on people for trying to be Mariah and not changing it up. They're idiots.

Anyone who tries to sing a Mariah song straight up is doomed. The only way to get away with it is to turn it into something completely different, so Brooke, Jason, and D. Cook should have it easy. The ones who will struggle next week are Kristy, Carly, and Syesha. (I don't think we need a reminder of the last time Kristy tried to turn a song into something different.

I definitely agree. The three in bold are most likely not going to change it and just sing it up straight, which of course always ends up in being compared to.

too bad i hear the theme is mariah's #1s...some of her best songs were never even released as singles. also, singing more obscure songs would save them from being compared to her and it would give them the freedom to adapt the song to their own style. i would've love to hear these:
