Seriously??). Still, not good. I don't think he's buying into his own hype, I get why he picked Innocent instead of something that would work better in the context of the show. Now this is totally the Cooktard in me speaking, but I honestly believe he was more inspired by his song than all the rest were by theirs. He knew he blew the performance, so I don't get the smug comments either. If he survives this round, he'll probably go back to game-playing mode and make a smart song choice next week.

You know the type of song - where some performer invites the audience to "bring their hands together" and clap and sing along, etc. It's a cop-out for the artist, and doesn't show off the singer's talent (or lack of it) either. I agree - bad song choice. It also seems he's still not feeling well, which is too bad. I hope he doesn't get booted for it though. It seems like his "fans" are pretty fickle. He gets a lot of votes on nights he does well, and then falls to the bottom when he has a bad night.

But I watched the song again, and I noticed his voice breaking, and the raw edge to his vocals. This wasn't as polished as all his other performances, and although you could tell he showed a bit of restraint, for me it was an honest performance, one wrought with feeling. Too bad the judges were were expecting another studio ready gem instead of an actual rendition.

The only person who has some sort of line of luxury to be able to afford to have a slip up this year is Archie but even he is in danger later down the road (but the least out of all I think). I think the public is getting more merciless in terms of giving people more chances. Cook is amazing though but I think, especially with his genre, he's gotta be on his A game every time to keep him in for long unfortunately. I like anything he does personally.

I think that many of the mongos that watch this show think he's both of those things because ZOMG Simon said so, not because they came up with it all by their lonesome. I'm surprised some of these fucking people can even take a shit and feel good about it without Simon's assertion that it was "master class". I might be a fantard but even if I loathed what the guy was selling, I can't honestly say he's not a good egg. (literally, considering his cranial shape . . cymbals) That being said, this performance was not in good in practice as it was on PAYPUH. I also don't think it has a thing to do with believing hype - dude was obviously off his game and he knew that he blew it after the fact. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little concerned being that I seem to attract an 8th Place Curse taps for Bucky but I don't think one stinker among several good to great performances justifies a trip home. Especially with Krusty hanging on by the skin of her squat week after week.

Someone in the hate thread said he was equivalent to a generic store brand, b/c many before him does what he has been doing. Velveeta's cover a cover bit parodied what he peddles quite humorously. This week showed a vulnerability and the real David peered through the cracks. If he could stay on course with performances like that one, despite being far removed from his overly polished studio copies, I think he could grow as a true artist. I am in a minority of one b/c eeryone thinks this song sucked. But give it another listen.

I felt even though the lyrics to the second verse are more powerful and personally meaningful to him if you're going to perform the song you need it to start off with the first verse. Starting with the Johnny wishes he was famous beginning verse and building from there would have worked out better, he wouldn't have got to do the second verse for the show but for the performance it would have worked better imo. It was just really awkward starting from the part he did.

It wasn't terrible but it was by far his worst performance. I don't think pompous is the right word to describe the performance. After he finished but before the judges commented, my husband said he thought it was "indulgent". I think that's a better word for it.
