Props to Finger Waggin' Alicia for a very nice stand-in tonight!
Got home 20 minutes after the show ended, stuffed some food in my face, and F'Forwarded through the 'mercials. So, this admittedly isn't the way I'm used to rating the performances. On the other hand, it's probably more like the audience's experience on an ordinary night, soaking in the performance as I'm typing my fingers numb. None of the Idols hit a home run tonight. 1. Kristy Lee Cook. (7) The only song I cared to hear twice. The second half of the song was as good as anything I've heard on the show this season. Pitchy first half, but not painfully so; and pitch is the easiest thing to clean up in a recording studio. The timbre of her voice and her interpretation of the song were perfect. 2. Syesha Mercado. (6) I didn't have a problem with it not matching Fantasia's classic. Nothing.Ever.Would. Except for a note here and there which probably deafened a dog or two, it was credible. Her conservative approach to the song served her better than last week, when she shot for the moon and ended up in the ditch. 3. Jason Castro. (6) Despised Jason's cover of the Tiny Tim cover of King K'monIwannalayyou's cover of the most overdone inspirational song of all time. Fortunately for him, he delivered it convincingly. GAP 4. Brooke White. (5) Why take a Carole King song, just to come off as plain as the SNL Church Lady? Everything about it screamed "meh." Brooke is about one missed opportunity from going home. 5. Archtard. (4) Off-puttingly pitchy throughout. It's gotten to the point where I hate hearing him sing anything downtempo with a controlled dynamic, because he sings flat. I don't hear anything so outstanding about his voice that I can ignore it, either. As with Jason, he's lucky others sucked more than he did. 6. Michael Johns. (3) He had me thinking "lounge act", until he murdered what FWA aptly called the "money notes" at the end. Not even a good lounge act. 7. Carly Smithson. (3) Of all the "inspirational" songs you chose that obscure shriekfest? And WTF was with that horrid bridge? 8. David Cook. (2) After reading the song spoiler, I hoped David would excel. He did; he excelled at sucking. The first half was virtually unrecognizable as music. Brain: Michael, Syesha, Carly. Heart: Michael, Archtard, Jason. Gut: Syesha, Michael, Carly. |

I gotta look at what I scrawled down before Hell's Kitchen. I honestly only remember 2 or 3 performances.

1. Kristy - I actually wanted to download the song afterwards. Finally she brings something to the stage.
2. Syesha - Seriously, I don't understand what the judges want from her. It was a GREAT vocal...and if it's such a singing contest, then who cares if she doesn't connect? 3. Jason - Ugh, why am I beginning to like him?!?!? 4. Archuleta - I'm a fan of his, but I don't think the arrangement worked for him at all. 5. Brooke - It was really boring. 6. Michael - Meh. 7. Carly - It was BAD. Like I said in PBP, if Paris' performance is more memorable... 8. David Cook - What the hell, dude??? Sorry seaguy!!! Brain - Michael, Carly, Cook...Cook going home. Heart - Jason, Michael, Carly...Carly going home. Gut - Syesha, Michael, Carly...Carly going home. |

2. Brooke - Big James Taylor fan here and love that song. 3. Michael Johns - Randy needs to clean ot his ears. 4. Syesha - Randy still had too much wax. 5. David A. - Hate Him!! 6. Jason C. - Same old stuff to me. 7. David C. - No real fan base and could be in trouble with one bad performance. 8. Carly - WTH! And you know the "tats" are losing you votes. Cover them up dummy as you need every vote. B: Jason, David C, Carly H: David A, Michael, Jason C. G: Syesha, David C, and CARLY going home. |

1. Jason. He's really been boring/annoying me the last few weeks, but tonight he was good.
Either Carly or Syesha will go home, but it will be interesting to see whether David C. has a loyal enough fan base by now that he can afford to totally blow and still miss the bottom three.

Another useless night for the judges. Even when I agreed with them, I didn't want to hear them.
1) Jason - I thought it was the most appropriate song for the night, and nicely delivered 2) KLC - very good 3) Michael - much better than the judges gave him credit for 4) Carly 5) Brooke - this should have been much better than it was 6) Archuleta - didn't like the song, performance was okay 7) Syesha 8) David Cook |

1. Kristy Lee Cook- As corny as it sounds, and as much as I hate when the judges say it...I could tell she was just FEELIN this song, and I felt it. I loved
it.
2. David Archuleta 3. Jason Castro 4. Brooke White 5. Michael Johns 6. David Cook 7. Syesha Mercado 8. Carly Smithson Bottom 3- Michael, Syesha, Carly. Bye Bye, Syesha. |

1.Jason 2.Carly (gap) 3.Brooke 4.KKKristy 5.Archuleta 6.Michael (gap) 7.Syesha 8.David Cook. 3-6 were all OK and the order is sort of interchangable. Going
Home: Syesha. Bottom 2: Carly. Bottom 3: Brooke. I'd like to see KKKristy tie Nikki's record, but I think she'll be the only woman safe this week,
even though Carly should be instead.

I agree with James, I thought the judges were annoying tonight for some reason. Especially Randy, hes suddenly started being a negative dick for no reason,
even when its entirely unnecessary.
1. KRISTYLEEOWNAGE 2. Jason after this everyone is just "whatever" 3. David Archuleta I guess? 4. Brooke who is boring the fuck out of me 5. Michael 6. Syesha 7. David Cook 8. 1 - Jason - 9/10 - Possibly his best performance of the season so far (it's either this one or "Hallalujah"). Terrific song choice. I'm not a
fan of the ukelele, but he pulled it off great. And he knows how to wear tight pants better than any guy I know.
2 - Michael - 7/10 - Great song choice and I thought well sung, especially those higher notes. His pants sure accentuated his behind. He's got a big butt, but it's very nicely formed. 3 - Carly - 7/10 - Good song choice. Personally, I thought it was better than her performance last week, but I realize I'm in the minority. Not her best, but not her worst either. Her outfit was better this week. 4 - Brooke - 6/10 - I don't usually like this song, but for some reason I liked her performance. Her vocals weren't excellent, but she has an undeniable charm when she's performing that draws you in and makes you want to like it. 5 - David A. - 6/10 - Excellent song choice. I thought it was going to be a showstopper at the beggining, seeing him sitting at the piano. But oddly, this was probably his worst vocal on a slow song so far, and i really didn't like his phrasing of the lyrics compared to the original . The performance still worked well enough. 6 - David C. - 6/10 - Wow, I can't believe he's this low in my ranking. It's his lowest ranking I think I've given him so far. I actually think he did a great job performing the song, as always, and came off as a professional singing his song in a concert, but I just really didn't like the song choice. I don't think pompous is the right word, though. Though, I did really like the ending with his having written "give back" on his hand. It could've come off as really cheesy, but it worked. 7 - Syesha - 6/10 - Terrible song choice sung excellently. Personally, I think she sang this song better than Fantasia and really got into it, but I still just don't like the song at all. 8 - Kristy - 6/10 - Well sung. I liked her top. Overall - A middling night, with only Jason really standing out; 7 out of 8 of them either got 6/10 or 7/10. I disagreed with the judge's negative comments on quite a few contestants. This is a pretty strong Final 8, I dare say possibly even the strongest Final 8 as a whole so far. It's also a very tight competition at the moment. |

suckshardcore wrote: Well, really, her, Syesha, David C., David A. and Brooke were all tied in my rankings at 6/10. Ranking them 4-8 was just a technicality. I just put hers below the others because it was the performance I least enjoyed. I thought it was a good song choice, but I don't like the song. It was a good enough performance, but I think everyone else this week had a good enough performance too. And I don't hate her! I'm rooting for her to become the all-time record holder for most B3s. I just try to be fair each week to what I really like and don't like. Case in point - Michael Johns is one of my least favorite contestants left, but he scored very high in my rankings last week and this week. |
