S16 Ep 8 - Challenge (Land, Balance) |
Lead | ||
|
We see Erik getting wasted trying to cross a balance bridge... Only to look at spinny wheels over the water.

It looks like someone (Cirie?) is holding a bag on the side. This could be a challenge like the Gauntlet challenge in Palau: the one where Bobby Jon cut his
chest on the rolling-log-balance beam thing. Looks like they try to get to the end while others swing bags at them, trying to get them to fall.

Gonna agree that this seems like Gauntlet challenge that we had seen on challenge board.

Is Parvati sitting out?

I think it's Parvati sitting out by the posture. Does she have a hat like that? She's been wearing that same camoflage UGA one as from Cook Islands.
(Or borrowed one from James?)
I think it is Ami we see part of at the left. Since there's no on else waiting for the orange team, she must be the same "round" as Natalie, so Erik is a little behind whoever he is going against? Wonder what the little stool at the edge of the platform is for... The backlit figure off to the side I guess is Probst. Then Cirie, and James.

Wonder what the little stool at the edge of the platform is for...If I remember the original challenge correctly, they had to retrieve flags or something from the other side of the course and bring them back. The stools are probably the collection vessel for the flags. |

S10 Palau – Episode 2 - REWARD CHALLENGE: THE GAUNTLET | |||
|
As the tribes met for the Reward Challenge, host Jeff Probst explained that this
Challenge would involve balance. The players were to run through a "gauntlet" bridge, requiring them to cross several floating obstacles over water
in order to collect flags on the other side. As they were crossing, two opposing tribemembers would be hurling swinging bags of sand at them all the while. If
knocked off, the player would be forced to go back to the beginning. The first tribe to collect all 10 of their flags would win a Reward consisting of fins,
mask and a Hawaiian fishing sling.
The competition got off to a furious start as Coby and James Miller, the 33-year-old steelworker from Mobile, Alabama, negotiated the course despite the opposing tribe's attempt to sandbag them off. Both tribes found it difficult to complete the course without falling into the water. However, Ulong jumped out to a sizeable lead as Katie Gallagher, the 29-year-old advertising executive from Merced, California, had great difficulty finishing the rope swing. Mastering the course with ease, Angie collected flag after flag for her Ulong tribe in what was turning out to be a rout. After receiving some tutelage from Willard Smith, the 57-year-old lawyer from Bellevue, Washington, Katie finally made it across the rope swing. But it was too little, too late, as Ulong eventually placed the tenth and final flag into place in order to secure the much coveted Reward. ![]()

What's up with the green flags (supposed merge color) behind Eliza and behind James at the challenge? They are all still wearing their orange and purple
buffs and the course is color-coded in orange and purple, but, I believe, this is the first appearance of any green colored flags. Any significance?

Another challenge where agile Eliza will be MVP. Remember how she rocked the Vanuatu ep.7 RC?
Even since Tracy picked Cirie over her, the challenges have catered to her strength (puzzle-solving, balance, agility, swimming). |

I agree...Eliza is the reason they have been winning.

Just sticking this in for completeness...
So Jason is another person running the course. If I'm interpreting the sketch correctly, and if they actually constructed it as drawn which they probably didn't, there's another pair of bag-swingers after Cirie and James? It looks like Jason and Erik are starting together, are they the first pair? Seems like there must be one more person from each team somewhere else? (Alexis/Eliza, Amanda/Ozzy are unaccounted for.) After the rolling barrels part, there's some sort of grid-ish part. I was thinking a cargo net; folks at Blows think the brown indicates dirt, so there is digging involved. Or I guess maybe mud to wade through somehow, with barriers like that long challenge in China. Then another platform or mat for each team, then something to climb on? Or is that last platform another place for Probst to stand, as he comments on the grid part of the challenge? |
