Act One
Once upon a time there was an adventurous young boy named Matty.

He lived a happy life with his Auntie Jan,
and weird old Uncle Roger.

One day, however, something strange happened to Matty. He went to bed, as usual. But a huge storm started up while he was sleeping. In fact, it turned out to be a tornado! The tornado carried Matty off to a faraway place. When Matty woke up, he found that he was on top of something - something dead. It was also very pretty.

"What is this place?" wondered Matty as he got up. His question was soon answered. "Welcome to Amozon," said a voice. It belonged to a funny-looking man in a blue shirt. "My name is Jeff," he said. "GO!" Then he raised his arm and disappeared.

There was a sudden cry from around Matty. "Ding dong, the bitch is dead!" As Matty looked around in confusion, he realized that he was surrounded by many strange looking people. Some of them were short,

Some of them were Asian,

And some of them were just plain ugly.

"Who are you?" Matty asked. "We're munchkins," said the people in unison, "and here comes Deena!" Suddenly there was a bright light. Out of the light stepped a beautiful, shapely woman. As the light faded, Matty realized that the woman was actually somewhat short and, well, stout. "Hey. I'm Deena, the Good Witch of the North."

Deena began to blather on. "See, the good thing is you killed Shawna when you landed on her. She was the Wicked Witch of the East, you know."

Matty was confused. "Why am I here?" he asked Deena. "Hey, don't look at me. I'm just a district attorney moonlighting as a Good Witch."

Ignoring Deena's incoherent chatter, Matty inquired, "But how did I get here? I want to go home." Deena answered, "Well, if you want to go home, then you gotta find the Wizard of Amozon in Jacare City. But you'll only be here for 39 days anyway, so you may as well--" Matty interrupted, "No, I think I'll ask the Wizard. How do you get to Jacare City anyway?"

Deena gave Matty a map that would show the route to Jacare City. "But remember, Matty, be careful of the Wicked Witch of the West -- Jenna. She might want revenge now that you've killed Shawna," warned Deena the Good Witch. Thanking Deena, Matty set off, to the sound of the munchkins cheering.

"Just follow the indistinct dirt path," sang the munchkins. But one of the munchkins was not singing. The ugliest one, named Hatchetface, was brooding alone under a tree.

Unbeknownst to the other carefree midg -- munchkins, Hatchetface was actually in the employment of the Jenna, the Wicked Witch of the West! Hatchetface sneaked off to Jenna to tell her where Matty was going...
Meanwhile, Matty was following the indistinct dirt path on his way to Jacare City. He had been walking a short time when something jumped out from behind the trees. Matty was very frightened, until he noticed that it was just a scarecrow.

The scarecrow started to talk (if you could call it talking). "Hi dere, I'm Kwisty! I'm a scawecwow, so I'm scawwy! Bwwehh!"

"Whewe you goin?" asked Christy the scarecrow. Matty replied, "I'm off to see the Wizard of Amozon." Christy said, "I come wif you, okay? I wookin for a bwain, to make me mowe smawter."

So Matty and Christy the scarecrow went off together down the dirt path towards Jacare City.
Matty and Christy hadn't gone far when they heard a strange noise coming from the woods. When Matty went to look for what was making the chopping noise, they saw a strange man standing in the forest, cutting trees. He was surrounded by chattering Munchkins, who fled as soon as they saw Matt.

"Hi there," said the man. "I'm Dave, the Tin Woodsman." Matty chuckled. "You don't really look like tin." Dave replied, "Yeah, well, I don't really look like a rocket scientist either, but..."

Still not really understanding what anybody was saying, Matty took Dave's word for it. "We're going to Jacare City to see the Wizard. Do you want to come too?" Dave threw down his axe and said, "Sure. I'm kind of looking for a brain, actually." Christy spoke up, saying, "Ha ha, Dave. I alweady getting bwain fwom Wizard, so you hafta ask for sumsing else!" At this, Dave looked sourly at Christy.

Dave sighed. "Fine. I'll be trying to get a heart. Maybe then the chicks will dig me." So Matty set off again towards Jacare City with Christy the scarecrow and Dave the Tin Man.
It wasn't long until, of course, there was something else to make them stop in their tracks. This time, it was a senile old man who seemed to be pacing back and forth, muttering nervously.

Matty approached him carefully, and asked, "Are you all right?"
The man jumped back with wide eyes. "You scared me," he yelled. "I'm Butch, the Cowardly Lion."

Matty noticed that Butch didn't really look like a lion, and his hat also had a tiger on it. But he decided that the crazy old man was too crazy to care, so he asked Butch if he wanted to come to Jacare City with him, Christy and Dave. Butch was scared of the thought at first. But then he told them, "Actually, I think I'll ask the Wizard for some courage. Maybe then I won't be too afraid to speak." Terrified at the thought, Butch fell silent. Matty rolled his eyes.

So Matty went off towards Jacare City again, hoping very much that the Wizard of Amozon would have some way of getting him home again. Or at least, that he had some way to make Christy stop looking bizarre,

keep Dave from grimacing,

and make Butch a little bit more sane.

But all the answers lay up the indistinct dirt path, in Jacare City...
Meanwhile, far away in the West of Amozon...

The Wicked Witch of the West, Jenna, had just learned of Shawna's demise from Hatchetface (over coffee).

"NOOOOOOO!" shrieked Jenna, and she burst into tears.

"It's not fair!" she yelled, with so much fury that a nearby tree burst into flames.

Then an evil grin came over Jenna's face. "Matty will pay...WITH HIS LIFE!"

Jenna then went off, laughing, plotting the demise of Matty. Suddenly, she had a brilliant idea. "HEIDEOUS!" she called. She would have her favourite winged monkey, Heideous, find Matty and bring him to her. In a burst of smelly air, Heideous appeared at Jenna's side.

"Yes, your Bitchiness?" said Heideous. She was truly a ghastly sight. Her eyes were the colour of rotting sewage, and her skin was pallid, as she rarely saw the light of day. Her stringy hair was covered in bugs and lice.

Jenna grinned evilly. "Heideous, I need you to find a boy named Matty. I have learned that he is travelling with three companions, but it should be easy to get rid of them. When you find him, bring Matty to me!" Heideous cackled, and took off out the window to find Matty.
