Entourage on HBO |
Lead | |
|
They've been running commercials for this show on every network for about a month now. I don't remember an HBO show being as heavily promoted. The premise sounds good; a show about a movie star's posse/hangers on. The first episode even features Sarah Silverman and Jeremy Piven from the old Larry Sanders Show.
Will it live up to the hype?

I saw the preview episode on On Demand, and from what I see, it won't live up to its hype.
There aren't nearly enough laughs and quite frankly - I have a hard time caring about these people. Oh, and Marky Mark has to have a cameo that totally pulls you out of the show to remind you that he is the producer of it. I would rather see a show about Kevin Dillon's character "Drama". The actor that is the playing the movie star is dumb. Maybe actors are dumb, but they don't seem to be playing this for laughs - its almost as if the writers think dumb is cool. I'll give it another chance, but if it doesn't get better, I won't continue to watch. |

Newsweek gave it a glowing page & a half review.
I'll tune in, but with expectations set low -- I've never seen a HBO comedy that was actually funny. |

This isn't funny. It's boring.

I also saw the first episode. It's fucking terrible. Jeremy Piven is okay in it, but I think that's probably only because he's surrounded by such horseshit acting that he seems funny....
....if this show lasts more than a season, I'd be shocked. I could barely watch the whole thing. You honestly don't give two shits about any of the characters at all. |

*nails on a chalkboard*
HBO's worst new series since Arliss, and probably destined to be even worse than that. Unpleasant, name-dropping and smug. God, why is this between Six Feet Under and Ali G?! |

I thought it had some funny lines--"that's 'Swingers' Vince Vaughn, not 'Old School' Vince Vaughn"--it has some potential, and the lead bubble-headed actor is cute.

This show sucks ass -- there isn't one single likeable character in it at all. The only thing that made me laugh was the "I HEART cock" bumper sticker and it was a long wait to get to that point.
I think this show is a tie with Carnivale for the most hyped piece of shit show HBO has ever come up with. And did anyone see their new reality show coming up -- since when did HBO decide to stop being creative and jump on the reality TV bandwagon? |

HBO did Project Green Light a couple of years ago. What's the new reality show they're doing supposed to be about? I missed the hype for that one.

It's called Family Bonds or something like that and it features a bunch of trailer trash folks who all look like they're rejects from a bail bondsman's office in New Jersey. I've never seen so much cellulite and big hair in all my life.

They lost like 3 million viewers from the Six Feet Under lead in and Ali G gained some back.
This show did terrible. People didn't tune in. You know what it reminds me of? The O.C. for people in their 20's. Its just a WB show with swearing. |

I watched it last night. I made this point over in the North Shore thread and it bears repeating. Last night was the pilot episode. I don't care if all 6 episodes were written at once...remember this addage: PILOTS ALWAYS SUCK. Let me repeat: PILOTS ALWAYS SUCK. 3/4 of the time is spent introducing you to the characters and trying to explain the situation. The only pilot in recent memory that didn't suck for me was the Arrested Development pilot.
To me, this episode totally blew, but again, it's gotten alot of critical acclaim and I'm guessing part of that is because the critics have seen all of the episodes. So before I say that it sucks, I'll give it at least another episode or two. |

Personally, I thought this was a much better episode than the pilot.
A much tighter, sharper episode. Loved the whole over-spending theme and the fact that E is getting it from all sides. And having Vince try to hit on the Britney clone was hilarious. |

The hot chicks on this show has addled your minds. This is not good. What part did you like best, when they bought the rolls and drove around high? Or was it the requisite entrance of the wigger member of the entourage? No, Drama studying the vagina monologues? How about when the business manager was yelling about buying the car, that was really hysterical. No wait, it wasn't. Actually it was quite dull and irritating. How often can you listen to that vapid wanna be pretty boy say stupid stuff or what? I don't know? Do I have a brain? Can I think for myself? Should I go the bathroom today?
no, all you can remember are the GIRLS |

Samaire Armstrong, too. As for Piven, he just shows up to yell at people. Not one of his shining moments, I'd rather watch PCU again.

The only character of interest to me is the manager-slash-pizza slinger from Queens. Some random guy has been thrust into making decisions for a movie star just because he's an old friend. And thus becomes the scapegoat for every missed opportunity.
There needs to be an episode where a massive earthquake occurs and the brother (Kevin Dillon) falls into the earth and dies. |

FWP, ease up - my post was in jest. I just can't see what is so great about this show and the only people I see defending it are straight men.
I also noticed that every show has a requisite swimming party with hot chicks and that last night, beside the swimming ho's, I saw 3 very attractive actresses featured prominently in the show. This is a guy's show and you men are not even noticing that they are throwing you bones. I don't know, maybe you can all related to masturbating with your buddy's Kiehl's lotion and I have no sense of humor. |

Re: Entourage on HBO | ||
Quote: Duly noted. And I will agree with you that it is all about the women. But, honestly, if I wanted that, I'd just stay up an hour later and watch the simulated sex on Skinamax where I can skip the plot and get right into the naked boobs and asses and pretend that when the guy is on top of the girl supposedly doing her, that he must really be having sex with her assuming that her vagina has been moved to her midsection....or that everyone in the world does anal sex because those scenes invariably have the guy doing the girl from behind. As for this show, if basically it is all about the girls and the pools and the hot tubs, etc., it will get boring REAL fast in the sense that it's like porn - the first 15 minutes you're glued to it, then for the rest of the movie, it's like, "ok...grab that...kiss that...oh good, bend over like that....oops...did that wrong....oh, as if regular people do THAT...and now let's get ready for the money shot.....GOOD JOB....right on the stomach....way to go, dude!" (roll eyes dude). So I'm really trying to find the interesting subplots, which leads me into the next response.... Quote: Which is the fascinating part for me. Oh, notice who was at the party last night? David Faustino...connection there to Kevin Connally in that KC was on that WB show Unhappily Ever After, which was created by Michael Moye and was intended to be a raunchier take on the Fox show that he created and which hit paydirt, namely, Married With Children, featuring....David Faustino. Quote: Has Kevin Dillon done anything besides Heaven Help Us? OMG, Gregoire, I'm with you on this one...just kill him off already. Not the character....the actor. Quote: What happens in the privacy of my own bathroom stays in my own bathroom... |
