"We'll be introducing new characters in Season 3, so you'll be getting fresh flashbacks. You'll probably see fewer flashbacks of our original characters as we begin to move toward certain inevitabilities.
It only makes sense for his story arc to reach a crescendo next year (finding out how he was crippled, etc) and then let him die in a horrific blaze of glory. Besides, he's publicly stated that he's not happy with what his character has become. The mystery is gone.
It's time for him to go, hopefully it'll be early on in the season.
