It is human instinct to run from fire, yet every year hundreds of men and women complete training during which they learn to fight that instinct. These firefighters dedicate their lives toward facing these perils and so that people like you and I can feel safe, be safe.
My memory of 9/11 will always pay homage to those men we saw racing UP the stairs, racing TOWARDS danger, unmindful of themselves, sacrificing everything because it was the right thing to do. |

A recent visit to my old high school's website was a jolt. They've added a 9/11 tribute, for the seventeen alumni who lost their lives at the World Trade Center. (See them here.) Several of them were NYC firemen. Two had identical twin brothers. Three graduated with the Class of 1982 (imagine how strange their 20th reunion was last year). We will never know what acts of heroism and sacrifice they performed on that awful morning, but we must always remember them, along with all of the other fine people we lost that day.
I know that some people here lost relatives and friends on 9/11. My heartfelt sympathies go out to all of you. We will never forget them. Perhaps the greatest tribute we can give to all the victims is to live our lives in such a way that we are worthy of the many sacrifices they made on 9/11. |

It's a shame I couldn't go down to the memorial in lower Manhattan today, but when I stop to think about it, remembrance can be had no matter where you are.

My heart goes out to all of those who lost loved ones and friends that day. I will never forget it....turning on my TV at 5:45 a.m. to catch the news. I was horrified as I watched it. I will never be the same except my love for America has never been stronger. God Bless everyone. God Bless America.

Special prayers to the families and loved ones of those who perished in New York City, in Pennsylvania, at the Pentagon, in Afghanistan, and in Iraq. All of them are victims of 911.
