Some specious of snakes eat their young when they are thought to be in danger and then vomitt them up when the danger is gone, its quite common and the other snake should be just fine and alive.

Last night I was sure it was molting and it just looked different because these are water snakes or something [truly I gave it very little thought because I was mesmerized] but look at the "head" of that thing exiting the snake mouth. It is just a shapeless lump, it can't be a living snake!
