I would agree 100% that this is the most emotionally 'touching' season.
As a viewer, I felt like I was on the journey with them the entire time. There was something about the way the season was edited that really immersed yourself into the Outback.
Plus, the final 2 or 3 episodes focused almost entirely on how greatly their lives had changed and how they take everything for granted at home. It was almost beautiful to watch, really.

Comparing Amber's UTR edit to the UTR edit of today is interesting. Nowadays, her edit would be considered MOR at least.

I don't think that Nick was ignored until the merge, he was always shown as lazy. I don't think he was as ignored as Amber

Nick and Amber (the two most ignored contestants in Outback) are nothing compared to Brett and Kelly. That is unless one of them decides to come out of nowhere like Natalie.

No, the pre-merge was great. A bunch of great characters and good storylines between the two tribes. Then Tina decided to ruin the season with her "good people should win!" BS, and gave us the most boring finale ever.

The location was incredible, though. Easily my favorite.

Australia's pre-merge was great? It was pretty bad as far as pre-merges go. I actually thought the best part of the season was Tina randomly beating Colby out. Most of the females basically gave the alpha male a VFTW fuck you and it made a good contrast to male Richard Hatch...

I'm watching it for the first time and I'm really enjoying this, not just a little but a lot. There is something truly touching about this where I have not felt in many of the other seasons. The human element is just wonderful where they really bring out the players and give a powerful humanistic experience.
