That's great that you'll be there for a year, RyAn! How fun!

If you get a chance, contact John Caveman Gray in Phuket. He also runs a sea canoe tour business ("John Gray's Sea Canoe", not to be confused with 'sea canoe', but mainly does his tours in the karsts , eco-tours, etc. He's the fellow that circumnavigated Koh Tarutao on a kayah shortly after the filming ended. Tell him Wezzie sent you. (wezzie rhymes with EZ)

It wasn't as affected nearly as much as other areas and only got minimal damage (don't quote me on that though). Everything around Thailand has been restored pretty much now anyway. Koh Phi Phi where the movie 'The Beach' was filmed got completely destroyed but is now back to a tourist hot spot.

actually some of the best islands in thailand are surrounded by the location. It's not like its the only thing I'm going to see while I'm there is the sites, that would be stupid. I'm living here for a year so I've got the time to explore.

I could think of many of things I'd rather do instead of seeing a boring survivor island that probably does not even have a remnant of survivor. I'm positive that there are more beautiful islands around Thailand or Malaysia or something. But I guess that's just me...

Aitutaki is a different story though, I'd love to go there.

That's the first I'd heard of that, interesting. All I see is the challenge though, no other signs of production.

Wasn't Tarutao affected by the tsunami? I know the region was.

The two sites where Survivor took place are both on Ko Tartutao, the biggest island in the 51 island national park. The two sites aren't particularly interesting to be honest, other than the fact that the show was shot there. There are many more places in Tarutao National Park that are prettier. The outer islands offer clearer water and wonderful...
