Gregoire, most modern zoos don't have cages anymore - the Houston one has moats around both the bears and the tigers - the other big cats are behind plexiglass

and there are usually zoo emplyees there to keep idiots from jumping in

For some crazy reason, the habitats at the Berlin Zoo don't have cages. The animals are separated by these large moat ditches. I remember thinking how incredibly simple it would be to just jump over them and steal a monkey -- or have my feet eaten off by one.
