I wish Amazing Race was in HD. I think some of the locations would be beautiful in HD. WHEN will this Emmy Award winning series be HD?! Survivor is on it's
2nd HD season and seeing Amazing Race in SD kinda sucks. Is the equipment too much $$ for TAR?

Perhaps they are upconverting for HD broadcast. How does the picture quality compare to known HD broadcasts?

It doesn't. They have to be upconverting. It looks just like any SD show on CBS. Looks good, but nowhere near the HD quality of Survivor.

Forgot to post this part of a Bert & Elise interview:

  Q. Regarding broadcasting in high-definition, you've (Bertram) previously stated that "I don't think it's a priority." With the digital
transition looming, phasing out of CRTs in favor of LCDs, and the continuous rise in high-def TV sales, do you foresee Amazing Race to ever be shown in
  high-definition in the future?
A. BvM: There's no reason we shouldn't do it but right...

It's not in HD? Damn sure looks like HD since I bought the HD converter
and a DB-4 antenna, and hooked 'em up to my HD-ready LCD tv! The panoramas have depth and dimension. Feels like I'm ... there.

It'd be impossible until more portable HD cameras are on the market. Even if they made a course to accomodate for heavier cameras (fewer taxis, no
head-cam shots, more soundstage challenges), any incident like Tammy/Victor wandering for hours in the wrong direction would be a killer.

I'm not familiar with the cameras, but maybe it has something to do with the fact that the camera guys have to run around the world holding the cameras.
Maybe it's too heavy or cumbersome, or maybe coupled with the reason that the cameras cost just too much to fit into the TAR budget? I'd rather see
regular TAR then HD enhanced canceled TAR.

Although I do agree that TAR in HD would be outstanding!
