The poster who first posted "reverse drag" has it. Two teams, two big ropes cleverly wound but neither rope is attached. When the winning team's rope comes "unfixed" the winning team falls backward (but the loosing team does not lurch forward...they go backward as well.) The winning rope triggers a flag of the winning tribe (as Birdlady speculated much earlier).

ETA: Ramona Balboa first mentioned reverse drag.

I still don't think they're against each other, based on the shin-bone-snapping apparatus design, but if they were, and if instead of a pulley or stanchion, there were a spool, one tribe could be feeding off the top and one off the bottom.

Tyson's rope is going straight out (chest high and parallel to ground), while JT's is angling downward, so they shouldn't be tugging against each other around a common pulley (though the body placements may seem to suggest that).

btw, Red tribe has two strong guys in front, both anchoring, and two strongish guys in back. Black tribe has one strong guy anchoring in front and another strong guy in back, and 4 useless people in the middle, not the least of which includes...

It seems more likely that it is option two, a non stop pulley tug-of-war. For the Jalas Stephen and Sydney have not been seen spinning. Stephen is the more likely initial rope holder/tugger against the bathrobe shirt guy with Sydney the last Jala to spin and make it within the tug rope boundaries.

A pulley tug-of-war or a haul-something-heavy challenge, with all that rope behind them the Jalas would...

I don't know about pausing in the middle, but the incentive for them to run hard enough to spin the brains out of their tribemates may involve a mad dash to prevent the opposing tribe from...

it doesn't look like any of the Timbira tribemates are in any position to be pulling with their weight. None of them are leaning back like the Jalapenos are. *IF* tyson was simply adjusting to get a better grip, there should be at least one of the others tugging hard still.

To me, it looks like Timbira just got to the group tug point in the challenge and are just getting into position to start pullin. Coach is turned to instruct the rest of the tribe in how to properly tug a...

If this is a two part, pause in the middle, challenge there must be an incentive for them to run hard enough to spin the brains out of their tribemates. Maybe the bags do contain camp comfort items from this part of the challenge.

If it's non stop into a pully tug-of-war finish then there must be at least one tribe member pulling while the remaining four are spun or the first spun person there could reel in the whole rope before the second arrives. Branden pulls the string,...

There's always the chance that Tyson's leaning forward for some leverage, and then is going to drop back, leaning with all of his body weight to pull the rope in, rather than just using his arms...

Right--which is why my first wondering was whether they were pulling against each other with the rope going around a pulley/stanchion because it sure looks like T is at the end of their rope

I stand corrected, Shadow. I also do not see a lot of spare coiled big rope on Timbira's side in this shot. I believe the frame is wide enought to
allow a conclusion that Jalapao has more "big rope" pulled. (what ever that means)

Anyways, Taj spinning, stupid shorts guy running. No sign of bags, rope definitely goes from spool to harness at his back. Would one choose to do Taj first, single-handed? She would be strong to help pull, but she would be heavy to spin. Or is there one puller for each spinner? No sign of rope (like some sort of pully to the next spool) or bags when she is done

It could just be where they tossed some detritus. Maybe Jalapao piled theirs more off to the side, like Timbira has their pulled in rope to the side instead of behind. Or is it just their personal bags?

I think I have ruled out that the bags contain game-apparatus first used before the "second" part of the challenge. All Timbira (except debbie) are pulling on the major rope in one shot, and many bags are present Timbira's side then. I assume Debbie is having her turn in the spin-dry cycle.

Staring at those bags a long while, I cannot rule out sand-content, reward-goodie content, etc. I have thus far been unable to make a connection...
