I liked this episode but it felt even more scripted than the first 2 when it came to the couple meeting these Watts folks. What a cute guy this millionaire was. He had a genious vision & made it pay off. Goes to show you that you should always do what you're interested in.

The poor wifey probably went home & ate 2 bags of chips with her Perrier.

Ok, whatever the reason for making this show, I think it is a very good thing. It is like Extreme makeover homes, it may be self indulgent at times, and edited for all the drama it can pull, but in the end it helps real people.

I lost it when Kuwana was talking and crying about her past. And inspired by the look she got when she stated that all will be good and her knowing that her child is all that matters.

Man this thread has some of the best responses ever, no sarcasm, wow I about lost it when I read Fluffynurse's story.

Glam you hit it out of the park with your response that should have been my angle when critiquing this show, very well done.

ITA the rich people of this country don't deserve all the pats on the back with this show for giving. What they should be doing is helping us out in our days of need when they have 16...

I found the second couple kind of fake - they seemed to take it on as a task, not to learn anything about it. For instance, they didn't try and make friends with anyone else in the trailer park - they bought a newspaper, and targeted the people they were going to help...they didn't try to integrate into the community the way the first two guys did. And they seemed like they couldn't run fast enough back to their lifestyle.

I loved the son in the first episode the best. I think he was the one most affected by it, and most likely to continue giving after the show was over. I have a feeling he will find a way to become a much more generous person.

I thought they were going to give more money away too - especially since the father admitted that the way he made millions and millions of dollars was because his law firm specialized in foreclosures, and said "the worse the economy is for everyone...

To answer BillNye's question, there was no hidden cameras. The people featured in each episode were told that they were going to be involved ina documentary about poverty.

Secondly, even though the father/son gave $125,000 dollars, they also gave the old woman so many toys for the children that were staying with her, so you have to add that up as well. I missed most of the first half. All I saw was the super skinny dad and that he gave away $125,000. The second half with the Louisiana couple was very touching, especially the Reverend. I love when he told them the reason they all wanted to rebuild is because they all had good memories still there. Just beautiful.

A few things stuck out for me.

How could that woman say she was a millionaire in her own right? Who gave her the money for her franchise in the first...

....and it does seem staged a bit to me too.....thought the same of the 50k for the cancer girl-tiny drop in the huge bucket-but keep in mind-maybe being seen on tv and compared to the other couple-they may end up giving more-or some to others to 'make up' for the difference.

The first epi was much more emotionally satisfying than the second epi, only because the father/son combo really let their feelings through. I really had a hard time keeping my t.ears in when the son was talking to that homeless kid in the shelter. He almost lost it himself.

OMH, Fluffy, that is such a sad and gory story. I feel so bad. I can't imagine being in the shoes of anyone who went through Katrina, but just watched with sadness and sympathy for what happened. I wouldn't wish that or any other natural disaster or anyone. I remember being really irritated that so many people had to leave their beloved pets behind. I know I could not have left my dear cat behind and no one could make me do it. I either take him with me or I would stay....

Laurie - I meant the DOG was mush. His bloated body floated to the ceiling where he stayed for several days then pieces/parts were left on kitchen counters & furniture & floor. Rocky was a huge German Shephard.

My brother chose not to bring him to my house because we already had people here with a total of 10 large dogs, 2 teeny dogs, 5 cats & my 3 dogs. We barely had space for all the people much less the animals. We never thought anything of Rocky staying behind...

eta: It DID seem highly edited & that was my only beef about this show. I'm sure the 2 guys just happened to be in line at the grocery store & saw the lady with all the milk. AND I'm doubly sure she gave them a ride with no qualms about if they were legit or not.! Really? Really? That could have been a rape/murder waiting to happen.
