Did you see her actually dancing on HSN on Sunday? I thought it was some impersonator, and it was actually her. She was really good, fairly coherent as well on there plugging her jewelry, and then dancing when that Paula Abdul guitar went on sale. AI should have her do a song and dance every season. That was very sad for her to have that happen outside her house, and sad for the woman and her family. Which is one reason I don't particularly like the three weeks of episodes...

A lawsuit by this woman's family against the show would have a lot more merit if she committed suicide shortly (like, a couple of days or weeks) after being humiliated on national TV by having her audition shown. But it's been YEARS. Unless the lawyers could demonstrate that there was a pattern of abuse in which the woman was being repeatedly humiliated because of that audition, I don't think they've got much of a case. I think a lawsuit is bullshit ... it isn't like she just auditioned last month.

She was wacko, and if it wasn't AI/Paula that was driving her over the edge ... probably something else would.

Besides, how would AI really know who had mental illness? It isn't like they carry ID. Now the "retarded"/etc ... different story, but some of them just wanna be on tv and would probably sue for discrimination.

I wonder if Paula Goodspeed's suicide will be mentioned on American Idol in the upcoming season. I know that by the time the season premiere rolls along, few people will actually be interested, but it should be mentioned as a cautionary tale.

It's so much more blatant though on American Idol. The people that face the judges go through multiple screenings before being sent to face Randy, Paula, and Simon.

I think it's pathetic that they would intentionally put a mentally ill person through for the sole reason of ridiculing them and serving them up as a punchline. Horrible.

Imagine what the memo's would be like for the three judges that put that girl through for the TV part of the show where she...

I agree with what most of you said--not a fan of exploiting bad auditions by people who are not right on some level. I remember this girl's audition and I remember thinking 'Is she mentally incompetent or an attention whore playing a role?' It's hard to tell sometimes.

It's sad enough that she was still an uber Pauler fan in 2008. The whole thing makes me sad, really. What a sorry life she must have had, poor thing.
