Sort of like Shikamaru, at the start of the series, Sakura was very plain and unimpressive. Unlike Shikamaru though, you knew she'd be a big character since she was sort of a main character in like the 3rd episode where she fights with Ino and the teams get picked

Of all the characters in Naruto, I find Shino to be 1 of the most original. From his powers to his personality, I don't think there's any other anime character like him

By far the greatest surprise character of the series. Shikamaru seemed like a filler character like how Izumo and the other guy turned out.
