Didn't Stephanie Meyer say she wrote Bella in the image of her when she way young? That would explain a lot since Stephanie herself seems like a loser.

I was one of the people who read the books after the movie came out. My motivation was simply due to the fact that I like Pattinson. Edward and Jacob kept my interest going. If only I could remember the amount of times my eyes rolled to the back of my head while reading about Bella.

To me Bella is a lot worse in the book because everything is from her perspective. At least in the movie we can have scenes not centering around her. The book Bella made me want to throw the book across the room millions of times (especially in Eclipse).
